The official Garry's mod thread
So here it is. After some requests we've decided that we should have a place for all your Garrys mod creations. Everything from grimaces to flying machines are welcome. Try to post your own creations and not otherone's finnished ones. If you don't know where to upload, go here http://upl.silentwhisper.net.

Oh, I bought HL2 for my computer but I got the VNG release for my little bro, anyone got some tips on how to install Garrys Mod on VNG release?

VNG release.. his is old, you need updates  mhh I guess ppatcher would work since it's single player, you get ticket errors for multiplayer but I think single player is ok |

As a matter of fact, I've been asking the aforementioned question for some time myself, before I got tired of waiting and figured it out. It is therefore with some reluctance that I write this. Enjoy, ya unresponsive pricks 
Note: The following guide assumes that you already have the Veng. rls installed. I'm using V's DVD rls. It should work on other releases, but ymmv.
Step 1. Update your installation.
Obtain and install "Half-Life 2 and CS Source Protocol v7 Update-VENGEANCE". Don't ask where, or I feel sorry for you. The installation may take a while, so don't panic... it's not frozen Note: I'm unsure if this step is necessary, so if you haven't done so already, try without and post your results here.
Step 2. Find and install Garry's mod (I'm using v6c) into whatever folder it wants (preferentially something easy to work with like c:\garry)
Step 3. Go to C:\Garry and copy the "garrysmod" folder
Step 4. Go to *\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\User\Half-Life 2 where * is the directory where you installed Steam/HL2 (usually C:\Program Files)
Step 5. Paste the garrysmod folder into the Half-Life 2 folder
Step 6. In the Half-Life 2 directory, you'll see hl2.exe. Right-click it and select send to>Desktop
Step 7. You should now have an icon on your desktop that reads something like Shortcut to hl2.exe. Rename it to Garrys Mod, or whatever name best suits you.
Step 8. Right-click the icon and select Properties. Change the "Target" field so that it reads "*\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\User\Half-Life 2\hl2.exe" -steamlocal -game garrysmod -console, where * is once again the HL2 installation folder. Click Apply then OK.
Step 9. Launch the shortcut and use whatever manuals available to figure out how to use it.
