Deus Ex + GMDX
Since this mod typically runs like ass on my PC at a decent resolution, I figured I'd give it a shot on the Deck.
Spoiler:
Install Deus ex
Download GMDX
Add the GMDX installer to Steam as a non-Steam game
Go to the shortcut for the GMDX installer in Steam, click properties.
Enable Proton 7 for compatibility
Run the GMDX installer from Steam
Remove installer shortcut once complete
Add the Play_GMDX.ink shortcut to Steam as a non-steam game (it's in the gmdx folder, which is inside the Deus Ex folder in Steam)
Go to the shortcut for the Play_GMDX.ink shortcut in Steam, click properties.
Enable Proton 7 for compatibility
Run Play_GMDX.ink via Steam
Don't change any settings, click play game. You can change settings in-game. Trying to mess with dropdowns in the settings outside of the game will give you headaches upon headaches.
From there it's smooth sailing, the game runs fine.
For controls, use one of the associated profiles for the Deck that can be found in the list of vanilla Deus Ex profiles, they work perfectly.
Final Fantasy 7 + Satsuki Yatoshi SYW Mod
To scrub the foul odour of the FF7 Remake from my brain, I also tried modding the original FF7. This runs perfectly on the Deck (with the 60FPS Satsuki Yatoshi Mod) and it looks/feels great. After playing this game so many times over the years, 60 frames makes it feel fuckin' amazing.

Instructions here:
However... it's easier to just set up on a PC, copy to USB and then overwrite the contents of the FF7 Steam folder.
Man, after owning a switch I wasn't sure how valve was going to get the ergonomics down, man this thing just fits into my hands like gloves. I've got large hands so it fits well.
I haven't jumped into anything crazy yet, just playing vampire survivors and the cult of the lamb ATM while I recover from chemo.
After that I wanna test out these guides to get pirated games to run.
Curious from an audio snob point of view if I can get drivers for my FiiO M11 to work at I can use that as a DacAmp to drive my headphones.
I spent the first week playing PC games, then emulators, now I'm trying modding. How do pirated games need to run? I assume via non-Steam game proton compatibility?

I ended up dropping Win 11 on mine for Ubisoft games and other stores. I had issues the last time I ran Lutris on my laptop getting their Connect client to work after an update so decided I didn't want the hassle when wanting to play Anno 1800
What issue were you having? I think I missed something?
Dude I just installed wreckfest today to find out it runs full speed.
I've been playing the fuck out of Cult of the Lamb and Dragonball Z Kakarot. Been curled up on the couch all day out of it, so glad I got this when I did.
Dragonball says it's unsupported but it runs better than a few of the supported games I've tried lol. Full speed no slowdowns.
There are many games that say they aren't supported but work at max details / 60FPS, it's usually because there's a launcher or something involved
The issue is the wire getting caught on the stick, I think. Or maybe the plastic is burred on the edges. I went reading about it last night and the LHS stick is notorious for either one of these issues. It just feels shit any time the stick is moved upwards or 90 degrees to either side of the upwards position. It comes and goes. I'm sick of it! The new ones were $54 AUD with shipping.
Ya my left had kinda a grinding on the housing issue but I jammed my fingernail in it and scraped what I could and send to be almost as smooth as the right one now.
Let me know how ya like the new sticks though, I heard they're awesome.
Having this thing so i can get away from the desktop after work, replay hollow knight, play old shit i never wanted to play in the pc sitting. Bliss! And it runs a lot better than i imagined. Well done valve.
Currently playing Hollow knigth and Doki Doki Literature club (heard so much shit about this that im just diving in until it clicks)

Tried playing the original Assassin's Creed game on mine (running Win 11) through Steam and got horizontal black bars at the top and the bottom. I believe there is a fix out there for that. Also, couldn't type in my profile name since my BT keyboard was downstairs. need to find a way to bring in the on screen keyboard for times like this.

Does SteamOS provide that option in game?
on top of what interactive said, you can actually hold your steam button down and it'll bring up a screen of all your shortcuts.
Also, don't forget you can touch the screen. There have been loads of times I've been unable to move the cursor or pick something, but the touch screen acts as the cursor too in some instances.
But I mentioned I was on Windows 11 on my Deck. Not working through there. I know it works through SteamOS. Never considered trying Big Picture mode. I hear it works more closely to SteamOS than regular Steam. But I just used my keyboard to ultimately create the profile. However, now the controller has got everything mapped wrong including using the B button to open options. lol.
Anyway, from what I could find on reddit (which I guess you may have also seen), it seems it's possible, but the changes need to be used in big picture mode.
I just did it so I could play UShit and Epic games. Also tried playing some NCAA sports games from a XBox 360 and PS3 emulators but that doesn't work too well. I had read it wasn't that good in SteamOS due to limitations of hardware but I went in thinking it wouldn't be the greatest.
The biggest drawback I've run across is not being able to zoom in on text like you can with SteamOS.
Eventually, I'll drop in a larger M.2 drive and when Valve releases the ability to dual boot from one drive, I'll probably do that just to get the best of both worlds.
OK now what. Am I expected to actually play this now instead of my 48" lg oled, 3080 and ps5 ?
Why did I got this
OK it's pretty fucking cool. I don't travel so my use will be limited I guess. but it is very well built.
Runs hot and lava is spewing out of the exhaust !
But wifi in it is very fast. I am getting speeds same as wired which is crazy. ps5 only getting 20% of that in the same room and I had to wire it.
Some backlight bleed in the top left. Nothing major.
Got 256gb version since I like glossy.
3080, ps5, lg oled
