I've been playing this for a couple of days, was looking for something like "Battle of Wesnoth". It's not a bad game but the difficulty is off (too easy). If you like TBS, this game is worth a play at $20. Good use for my 3080 with its SNES graphics.

On difficulty, playing on "Warlord" (hardest) with "Permadeath" about halfway through the game and not lost a unit.

Yeah it's been fun, but they said they were looking into improving the UI so I'm holding off for that.

The UI / clunky way you have to go through menus just to do certain things, and the weird portraits are my only complaints so far. Dunno how the story is gonna pan out.

Is it wrong that I am getting a (sorta) HoMM-vibe from this? Could be interesting.

The UI is pretty clunky, i just use the arrow keys, don't even bother with mouse. Story is slightly better than typical 2D JRPG you would expect from this. Personally i would prefer less cutscenes/story Smile

HoMM comparison is fair, you need to collect map resources to upgrade units in your armies. You also get 1-3 item slots per army to equip random items you buy/find that augment all units in the stack. They've done a good job on all the units in the game, combat is satisfying albiet kinda easy.

Permadeath is the only way to add a little challenge to the game, as any units that die and are not revived are lost.

Yeah, I'd say it's more of Fire Emblem + Heroes of MM, and I recommend the game, it's pretty cool in the 4ish hours I've played. Maybe less clunky with a controller too.
