Combat sucks, rolling has no iframes and evading enemies seems random. Its not like dark souls where, if you die, its your fault for not dodging or parrying at the right moment, this is one game where difficulty really is superficial, such disappointment.

I didn't like the original ones when I emulated them some years back, hopefully this new visceral(tm) Dad of War will fare better. And finger crossed for a quick & painless isodemo.

Calling God of War superficial difficulty in the same sentence as Dark Souls lol. Dark Souls is only hard because their controls are clunkier than fuck. Hiding enemies around a corner that kicks you off a wall and ded isn't hard, it's cheap. Most the entire Dark Souls are just like modern horror movies with cheap jump scares that feels like you're trying to move around an '89 buick. Only reason they got popular is because it turned into a meme.
Ninja Gaiden on Xbox (now pc) is proper difficult.

what? if anything the lower iframes means you need to be more precise... it does have iframes but its short at the start of the roll and then no iframes during recovery. this games combat is clean, if you are competent at video games.

We must have played different iterations of Dark Souls. The queued actions surely aren't great and I'm no fan of analog movement. But a lot of thought went into the enemy design and creating this kind of reactive gameplay which allows for various approaches and gameplay feats. God of War or most of the games on the market for that matter don't even come close to the the enemy variety or the design the Souls series provides.
And yes, the difficulty in God of War is cheap. The last level of difficulty is just ramped up stats to the maximum and the devs didn't even have the courage to put an achievement for it. The difficulty is actually designed in such a way that allows you to continuously normalize it by upgrading gear.
