Yes, its sort of a clickbait and I hope nothing similar to that will ever happen obviously!!!

But what IF that would happen, do you think people would be willing to pay? Some might... but its strange how few people that criticize ps+ and xbox gold. And even some people defend it with all the great free games you get Laughing Laughing Laughing and how reasonable priced it is.

Iv always been like... ehhh, thats not what its about. I can afford it, but its about the principle. You buy a game, you should be able to play it online for free.

Discuss!

I play offline shit and actually sort of went back to pirating shit mostly (except with semi online stuff like DS and Elden Ring).
A few weeks back I spent ~24€ to get FO3, FO:NV, TES3 and TES4 on GoG and felt weird as hell to be paying that "much" for games again Laughing

I dont think it would ever happen without backlash. As it would be fundamentally changing the way PC online gaming works.
PS/xbox was 'single player' only, for a few generations, and multiplayer/internet access with the box was an additional feature. So the mindset its 'added onto' the console paved the way to the way it works now.

Since the late 90's PC games online play (if the game has it) has been standard and built into the game itself. The PC doesnt control if the game has MP in it..the gave dev decides if it has MP.

If they all of a sudden announced that all the games on steam you have been playing forever online, and all future ones will now cost a low fee and the platform decides if you have MP regardless of if the game itself was made with MP. Everyone I know that plays games or I play with would be raising hell loudly.

Same thing, I never stopped though Razz

If Steam/Valve were to pull off a giga retarded move like this, I would stop using Steam altogether, plain and simple Very Happy

I'm the opposite there is only a few game I play that are SP, things like Planet Coaster and Cities Skyline etc. (and if they had MP Id be using it).
Anything else, I usually decide if I get it on if it has MP me and friends can play. A Handful of games I was mildly interested in until I found it it was SP only.

It would be too much of a jeopardizing move to even be realistically considered, and although many fellow PC pears would still be willing to accept it in the same way they swallowed similar invasive anti-consumer practices, the majority of the user base would be *extremely* vocal against it (rightfully so, for the reasons that DX mentioned).

At the end of the day I wouldn't be affected since I don't care about online games, but it would be a good reason to finally abandon the service and just replace my current 'isodemo->buy on sale later' routine with the 'sail the seas 24/7 zeroremorse_mode' one.

Remember G4WL? Laughing
If MS didn’t pull it off, Steam sure as hell won’t.
