We've already had this discussion many times. Woke is something else, it's inserting stuff for the sake of virtue signaling and inclusivity ONLY, and not for building good story around it, or even doing good characters that makes sense. That's what pisses people off.
It's not like i don't know that The Shield, Sopranos or Southland has e.g gay characters, they're very well written, they make sense, there's no specific agenda (and if there is its so subtle that it wont bother anyone). If those series came out today no one would call them woke, and if you do then you don't understand what it means.
Racism can also be an interesting topic if its well written and there are tons of older shows that pulls that off without it being anti-white, which a woke show would be and it wouldn't be subtle.

Hardly. You can't argue Starbucks is a poorly written character, or that this character is presented with some type of agenda just because it's a woman, that's not wokeness and not how i've ever argued about it.

Because they never experienced issues in real life. You can tell when a writer experienced hardships or actually lived in them. Their writing works. Even if it's progressive and super woke.

Totally with Waldo on this, while there was an actual tangible push for "woke" themes (mostly) for American productions because well.. it's a modern subject, which can fly over our older heads, most of it has to do with the quality of the writing first and foremost.

Whoever is hiring these days for series/movies is more interested in how the writers Twitter feeds looks than how her/his writing is. "wow this writer REALLY hates Trump, over 2000 tweets about how Trump must be murdered.. ok we must seriously consider this guy."
It all comes down to Social Credit Score, investors are very interested in that so the showrunner must use it to attract attention, it can also mean government funded money. Social Credit Score means more than money these days, or you could say its very interconnected. This is the main reason we have something new that we call woke when it comes to movies/series.
Aliens is not woke, really well written characters, also the movie did not tie in current social issues into the plot, if they did its subtle or just well written, not something that would take away from the movie..

Again, wokeness is all about the agenda, making sure that part is very visible and that it comes through to the viewer (and to the investors) here it doesn't.. big difference, but please continue to pretend you don't understand  Ripley is a superbly written character, a woke Ripley written in 2022 would be anything but.
