https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-61154559

Quote:
Actor Johnny Depp has taken the stand in his $50m (£38m) defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, saying he is telling the "truth" for the sake of his children and family.
The lawsuit is over an opinion piece Ms Heard wrote for the Washington Post in which she calls herself a victim of domestic violence. He denies any abuse.
Ms Heard has filed a counterclaim.

Watch live on YouTube.

Quote:
Actor Johnny Depp is suing ex-wife Amber Heard for $50 million for defamation in connection with Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed, in which she spoke out about being the victim of domestic violence. Heard’s article did not specifically name Depp as her alleged abuser, but according to Depp’s lawsuit, it relied “on the central premise that Ms. Heard was a domestic abuse victim and that Mr. Depp perpetrated domestic violence against her.” Amber Heard is counter-suing Depp for $100 million.

What exactly did she do tho?

Wife beat on husband. Typical domestic violence that happens to men and women day in and day around around the world.

But since both are famous it's worth people caring about somehow Razz
(Not raining on anyone's parade that does enjoy such things. Just it's an obtuse alien concept to me to care more because they are famous)

Technically it is. He lost in the UK. It got proven she lied but magazine had no idea she lied so they won. Lol.
Now he's gonna lose in USA.

So kinda world news. lol wut

In reality it's good for JD to get his testimony out, nobody wanted to listen to him or even believe him. He got fired from plethora of projects. He's broke. He's poor. He's still gonna lose, but now he gets to have closure.

Also there are plenty of lawtubers live streaming the trials and giving in their commentary if anybody is interested in lawtubers. Rekieta Law (raunchy commentary). Legal Bytes (good informative commentary) Emily Baker (ladylike raunchy commentary)

But this should be in the useless void. Gore Verbinsky is doing a space epic and won't do anymore pirates so who cares. Razz

yeah. listened to it in its entirety while playing Vampire Survivors Very Happy she always took his boots off and gave him a glass of wine, and when he one time took his boots off himself she got extremely upset. just one out of many examples.

seems like it can be several days of him talking, not really up for that but i'll take a look at Rekieta Law every now and then, somewhat interesting at least.

this vittnes was soooo funny to listen to (from a couple of days ago)

peanut gallery, what's that? people sometimes commenting? i really could not watch this without that, it's a real drag imo, and Rekieta is the main good and fun part since he's very likeable and funny + knowledgeable...

@vurt
The more we talk, the more I realize we are so vastly different. Laughing
Any video with that in it makes it unwatchable to me. Doesnt even matter if its a subject I like. I will go find a video without someone commenting/reacting over it.

well this was a 9h stream, would you really listen to that without some funny commenting, engaging a bit in the chat etc?

I really couldn't do that, these trials are very boring for the most part, in 9h there's perhaps 30 mins of TOTAL interesting or very funny bits, it's a total drag unless you have likeable commentators there to spice things up and some funny engagement with us who watches. it really makes it more worth listening to because those boring hours becomes a lot more fun, more like a social thing.

Also some parts can be confusing and Rekieta can quickly clear that up when there's a quiet moment in the trial.

Why watch a 9 hour stream or some bozo commenting on it? At the end of every day there will be shortened clips of what matters (to whoever it matters to)

Yea..I actually do. I watch CSPAN of my own free will for hours sometimes. I fully admit I am an outlier exception to the norm for such things.
[CSPAN if you dont know because its a US thing, is raw coverage of US governmental proceedings with no commentators or pundits or news anchors. it's just film cameras in the room]

I can honestly say I have never engaged in any live text chat that happens to be on something I am watching/streaming online. I even have 'live chat' blocked on youtube using the manual Ublock option, it scrolling on the side is distracting.

@Interinactive Fun to watch live, engage with people, and its not like i follow all 9h closely, its just here and there.

Same thing could be said for sports.. i can absolutely understand why people would want to see that live rather than the few good parts afterwards, if you're interested you don't mind investing time in it. at least here i don't need to watch it, i just play some game and have it in the background.

@DXWarlock sure. but i like when he explains some stuff that people might not understand who isn't a lawyer, makes me learn stuff...

Dont get me wrong I LOVE comedy. It's really about all I watch on TV for shows. And love stand up comics. But if I want information, I want raw information, if I want comedy I want raw comedy Laughing
Come to think of it thats all I watch in youtube too: Either comedy or informational, educational, and nerdy stuff .

I guess for me raw information IS the entertainment part for me. Anything else is distracting me away from what I came to be entertained by.

Not to try to come off as smarty pants bookworm [as I dont remember 90% of the shit I read in the example below now anyway], but just for pure context. When I was a primary school kid my grandmother watched me after school. She had a bookshelf full of books. None of them was 'funny' so kept looking because I was bored and stumbled on an old ass outdated by about 15 years set of encyclopedias. THOSE entertained me, I read them randomly everyday after school. going "Oh I didnt know that! Oh or that!" and "That's pretty damn cool! That is amazing!" It in itself was entertaining reading things I didn't know.

Maybe it's from my personality like above and the encyclopedias, mixed with being an only child? if I (as in me alone) am doing something I dont want others bothering me with talking over/to me during it.

it's not like they talk / joke over it constantly, they have to carefully balance that so that they don't do that over a part that could be interesting to hear.

but sure, i can understand that it's not for everyone.

I mean had they commented something properly and intelligently it would be one thing, but they're just laughing and saying inconsequential shit which distracts you if you actually want to hear what's going on in that court. So yeah, if you love these guys and want to smooch their faces while listening to their mesmerizing voices and contagious laughs then this video is for you.

Otherwise it's best to find the original clip and watch it like a normal person.

Rekieta is a very knowledgeable lawyer, followed him for years and i've learned a ton. You're seeing a few minutes from a very long stream, and this part is more laughing because its a fun witness.

Commentators can be good and bad, if you find those that are very similar to yourself (same kind of humor etc) it can be good, otherwise its obviously just bad and you have to either find better commentators or just watch it without (gets super boring for 9h streams).

I think this type of testifying is really awkward to listen to, like him describing when they first kissed, intimate moments, quirks that they both have and so forth. telling that to the entire world Laughing

i wonder if they're going to get to where Amber Turd is revenge-shitting on his bed or if they'll just leave that out. Wonder how many times she's gotten Depp fans screaming "Amber Turd" at her btw Very Happy

Dedicated fans. Grifting. That's why. Lol. These lawyers make a living doing live streams.
At the end of the day once you get comfortable with the host, it's not bad. Going in blind is jarring. Peanut galleries especially with things you have basic knowledge of is very interesting. Like watching stem videos and you get commentary on shit. I have no idea what science is, but when someone well versed in it explain to me like I'm 5, then I may enjoy it.

Take nilered for example. Yah you can watch his tiktok and get the short end of the stick, but his full videos are very educational. Same with Emily Baker, legal bytes and rekieta. They explain why the lawyers may ask certain questions, why certain objections are questionable, why a testimony gets thrown out. Explain behind the scenes and throw in some raunchy commentary.

Watching it raw is good too if you understand what's going on. Otherwise you're just watching for the sake of saying you watched it. Much like in the Rittenhouse trial, lawyers explained why he will win, why it looks like self defense, showed the sneakiness of the prosecution and those who watched it blind expected Rittenhouse to rot in jail and were shocked when he got nil.

There's benefits for both. If you understand the basics+ watching it raw you can make up logical assesments on what you're watching. But if you're a dummy, and you watch peanut gallery that hasn't steered you wrong before, you can learn the basics+ along with them.

Jesus, Depp speaks so slow and obnoxiously. I guess from years of alcohol and drug abuse. Even at 1.5x, it is too slow. Laughing Poor jury. I'd go nuts.

Yes, as you know, most of us talk "unscripted" in our daily lives Laughing as are the other witnesses and the lawyers and the judge, but only Derp is speaking in a 1 word per second, 2 seconds of pause between words.

I was taught that if you can't explain it to a 5 year old you don't understand it yourself. Razz
So I have no issue feeling stupid as long as I learn something

Just think of these peanut galleries as podcasts - makes it easier. And if you're into internet drama some of these lawyers are deep into lolcow lore.

As for JD lol his testimony was sad and helped paint a picture of a gentle man, but my god do some cocaine ffs.

It could be argued that he's repeating what he was told to repeat and years of drug abuse slowed down his memory so he's slowly reaching for the scripted answers. And only unscripted part in these is cross examination. When your lawyers ask you questions they asked you them over and over and helped you formulate your answers for the jury. So yes that shit is scripted. Laughing

Can we either move this to general or useless? This isn't world news. It's celebrity gossip ffs. Also no more jack sparrow so it's all irrelevant.
