Quote:
Remedy Entertainment, the creators of Max Payne, are pleased to announce that they will remake the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne video games in a new development agreement with Rockstar Games.

The relationship between Remedy and Rockstar Games dates back to the original release of the critically acclaimed Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne games, developed by Remedy and published by Rockstar Games. Both games left an indelible mark in popular culture, lauded for their neo-noir atmosphere, groundbreaking storytelling and “bullet-time” gunplay.

“We were thrilled when our long-time friends at Remedy approached us about remaking the original Max Payne games,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games “We are massive fans of the work the Remedy team has created over the years, and we can’t wait to play these new versions.”

“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala. “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”

Under the development agreement signed today, Remedy will develop the games as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S using its proprietary Northlight game engine. The game’s development budget will be financed by Rockstar Games, the size of which will be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production. Under the agreement, Remedy has a royalty opportunity after Rockstar Games has recouped its development, marketing, and other costs for distributing and publishing the game.

The project is currently in the concept development stage.

MP3 is not made by Remedy. And how would a remaster look like ? Thats a modern game, from the same timeframe as GTA 5. It will be the same game, just asking money again for it. Remedy is remaking their own 2 games here. Max Payne is from 2001.

"Typical Remedy budget". They probably mean like how it was for Control, 20-30 million. Which is 2004-2007 level of budget. Otherwise they would have said AAA budget.

Shocked Needless to say, both games hold a very special place in the gaming pantheon, they're all-time classics.
Fiending MP1 in one sitting is still a cherished memory of mine, it was just like a very awesome fever dream Very Happy

Unfortunately, you could also kinda tell it wasn't Remedy's Razz - the game wasn't bad by any means, but boy did it have issues.

Best gun play compared to 1 and 2. When you have fun shooting everything else doesn't matter.

Look at rage. 3 hour game but best 40gb spent installing it.

Mp1 needs remastering. Mp2 I don't think so. It still looks great and plays great.

Does this mean, it's still 3-5 years out?

Interesting, though I do have some concerns given how consolized the shooting was in Remedy's games of late. I replayed MP1&2 back to back last year with a few graphical enhancements and the fun factor was practically intact for me, but I understand that others might disagree. Hopefully, they won't fuck this up please
The biggest question however is, what will Max's definitive face be like? Pain or no pain? Or maybe...half pain?

Last time I played Max Payne 1 was actually the Android version on a tablet years ago. Fun nostalgia, but a proper remake would be epic in my book. And it has to be done right!

Yes, since Alan Wake 2 is 2023 so they probably are not going to even really start work on Max Payne till then.

Great news but as others have said I don't expect this to come anytime soon.

I also expect the story to be streamlined (i.e. parts removed) so that it plays more like 1 game instead of 2, and together with the also very likely removal of comic book panels, etc., for a more modern storytelling approach, I think I'll make sure to replay the games at least once before the remake because it's not going to be the same with just better graphics.

I'm sure Sam Lake will reprise his role in some capacity (I mean he does this every so often), but it's likely to as an unlockable, DLC, etc. rather than the default appearance.

I replayed both a year or so ago and the gameplay still holds up solid.
Better models and animations would be enough for me.

You guys laugh. They're going to use AI to upgrade textures and things like t2 did with GTA remasters. T2 still owns the rights to Max Payne Sad

^ jesus. No, they're not doing AI texture upgrades. This is not a remaster of the old games. This is a REMAKE. They're redoing Max Payne as if its a new game.

Think about the recent Mafia game. A new game where the only thing in common with the 2002 original is that the story follows broadly the same strokes. And nothing else besides that. An entirely different game otherwise.

Thats what this is. A remake. From scratch. That has both games storylines combined. Its not the old game with new paint.

Look at Quantum Break's weaponry if you want to see how the gunplay will probably be. Look at how heavy they leaned into story to the detriment of gameplay in Alan Wake and QB. Those are probably the lines they will follow with this.

And the "remedy budget" means a really small one. Rockstar is paying for this and remedy isnt getting anything until after Rockstar gets back every single cost. So of course its not gonna be some big lavish AAA production. And this being in the planning stages, the announcement is basically a job ad. Forget about Max Payne 1/2 with better graphics, because its not gonna be that. And forget about this until 2027 or so.

Their gameplay is good. No question asked.
But r* outdid them in gun play.

And I was joking about AI remastering lol.

I trust remedy at remake, but r* should step in and help with gunplay.
Their recent games were not that great in gunplay. They were ok.
Alan Wake had good gunplay, American nightmare too. Somehow they dropped in quality once they took Microsoft monies.

it's so weird. Dillon, the actor who posted this on instagram replied to one of the comments and said it was cancer. Maybe McCaffrey has cancer, but still alive possibly ? The weirdest thing. Nobody else is reporting on this or knows anything
