It’s been claimed the pair, who rose to fame in the 80s with their science fiction show Temps X, broadcast from 1979-1987, had both been hospitalised with Covid-19.

A statement from Igor’s family via his agent to Agence France-Presse read: ‘In peace and love, surrounded by his children and his family, Igor Bogdanoff left for the light on Monday January 3, 2022.’

Despite reports, Igor’s family did not wish to communicate the causes of his death.

It was previously claimed Grichka was admitted to intensive care in a Paris hospital on 15 December, before his death on December 28.

As per Le Monde, Grichka’s lawyer, Edouard de Lamaze, also said during an appearance on RTL that Igor’s death was due to Covid, while earlier reports claimed the pair were not vaccinate – however, this too has not been confirmed by the brothers’ family.

Former Minister of Education and friend of both brothers, Luc Ferry, previously told the publication: ‘Grichka, like Igor, was not an antivax. He was antivax for himself. Being very athletic, without a gram of fat, they believed that the vaccine was more dangerous. They never got sick.’

Igor rose to fame in France in the 80s alongside Grichka and soon became a recognisable character in the TV and science fiction industry.

As well as Temps X, one of the country’s first science fiction series the brothers hosted in shiny, silver suits, Igor went on to appear on a number of science programmes alongside Grichka, with the pair eventually each receiving Ph.Ds – with Grichka’s from the University of Burgundy (Dijon) in 1999 and, in 2002, Igor receiving his in theoretical physics from the University of Burgundy.

Still, the brothers were involved in controversy in 2002, in an event branded the Bogdanov affair, in which it was alleged the brothers wrote nonsensical advanced physics papers – mostly about what they believed happened during the Big Bang – that were nonetheless published in reputable scientific journals.

That same year the brothers launched a new weekly TV show Rayons X (X Rays) on French public channel France 2 and, in August 2004, also presented a 90-minute special cosmology program.

Over their career, the twins, who are descended from European aristocracy, became known for their prominent chins, lips and cheekbones, but have denied having any plastic surgery.

After spending time out of the spotlight, Igor returned on The Masked Singer in France last year, but, alongside Grichka, was eliminated in week two of the series.

Igor is survived by his ex-wife, the writer Amélie de Bourbon-Parme, and their six children.
