Details such as the reboot director, stars, and how the reboot would fit into the franchise narrative are being kept under wraps. But Martin Moszkowicz, chairman of the board at Constantin Film, did confirm to Variety at the Cannes Film Festival that a reboot is in development at the giant German production company, which owns rights to the franchise and has produced all of its installments.

As far as I'm concerned, there has never been a Resident Evil movie.

Indeed Razz

Who knows, usually once one hits the absolute bottom there could be the chance for a redemption. The rebooting job actually worked wonderfully with the games, but with movies it's an antipodal process, we may end up getting a new perspective/take that's still equally as dumb as the previous one, only for different reasons. To me it seems like with every new movie they were already trying to reboot the franchise every single time.

Also the addition of the animated movies.

The animated ones have always been standalone trash, that never rebooted or continued anything... Much like the games Razz

Speaking of what, isn't that shitty new animated film supposed to be out soon?

Honestly, I wouldn't say its much of surprise, though being a reboot might actually make the movies being more close the the source material...

But nothing is granted of course.

James Wan has come aboard to produce the first of the Resident Evil reboots from a script by Greg Russo, and we’re hearing and it will have an entirely new cast.

Well this should be proper horror! Very Happy

http://comicbook.com/gaming/2017/05/22/resident-evil-milla-jovovich-comments-on-reboot-news/

Quote:
“I think a lot of people with these franchises kind of put the cart before the horse,” Jovovich said. “There’s a danger to that. They’ve been wanting to reboot Resident Evil for a long time, and listen: I love the Resident Evil world. I think it’s a great property, I would do it if I was a producer. I think what made Resident Evil so special is that the people involved really loved what they’re doing and really were fans of the game. I would suggest that you find people that have that same passion for the property before you talk about reboots. I think if you get into this kind of genre, people are very sensitive to fakes. There’s some real fans in the sci-fi/action/horror world, and they’re not idiots. They can smell when something is done because people love it and when something is done just to monetize an opportunity.”

Is that why they marginalized characters from the video games that fans of the series love?

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

Which is mostly based on films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc.
Why not start with the original and make a proper horror movie?
Give it to James Wan and we'll have a Conjuring-type horror movie in (and around) the mansion.

the resident evil story is just fine for a game, especially for a game this old.
but this is just like with metal gear solid.
it's over the top and weird, probably because it's coming from japan.

the first movies were shit already and even if they ditch the ugly girl and the director, nothing will change.
how do you want to do a normal movie about this game when the story is weird from then beginning already.
alone all the wesker stuff... Laughing

Milla Jovovich ugly? You take that back you bitch!

I just want a good movie about a special forces team with inner tension to be locked into a manor and trying to survive against undead forces. I don't care about T-Virus origins, some global corporation that is super rich, Raccoon City...

Make it r-rated and filled with dread.

Yeah, this is what I felt. If they are taking inspiration from the dread aspect of 7 then its fine otherwise the story has been seen many, many times already.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

RE7 is a soft reboot of RE1 anyway, so it doesn't mean elements from RE1 can't make it to the film. The secluded mansion, etc.

and there goes the only positive thing about this reboot Laughing

Quote:
James Wan (Insidious, Saw, The Conjuring) and his Atomic Monster are no longer producing a reboot of the Resident Evil films, he exclusively tells Bloody Disgusting. Wan corrected the record during an interview for Aquaman.

“I’m not doing that anymore,” Wan said. “That has been dropped.”
