She will fight to unite the warriors of two worlds. You are Wonder Woman.
In development by Monolith Productions, creators of the critically acclaimed Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor™ and sequel Middle-earth: Shadow of War™, this open-world action-adventure game will feature the beloved DC Super Hero, Wonder Woman.
The single player open-world action game will introduce an original story set in the DC Universe and allow players to become Diana of Themyscira in the fight to unite her Amazon family and the humans from the modern world.
Powered by the Nemesis System, gamers will forge deep connections with both enemies and allies as they progress from a heroic fighter into a proven leader.
UPDATE 21.33pm: Warner Bros. has confirmed reports of Wonder Woman's cancellation and the closure of three of its studios - Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego - calling the move a "strategic change in direction".
"We have had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development studios and investments around building the best games possible with our key franchises - Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones," the publisher wrote in a statement to Kotaku.
"After careful consideration, we are closing three of our development studios - Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. This is a strategic change in direction and not a reflection of these teams or the talent that consists within them.
"The development of Monolith's Wonder Woman video game will not move forward," Warner Bros. continued. "Our hope was to give players and fans the highest quality experience possible for the ionic character, and unfortunately this is no longer possible with our strategic priorities. This is another tough decision, as we recognise Monolith's storied history of delivering epic fan experiences through amazing games."
"We greatly admire the passion of the three teams and thank every employee for their contributions," Warner Bros. concluded. "As difficult as today is, we remain focused on and excited about getting back to producing high-quality games for our passionate fans and developed by our world class studios and getting our Games business back to profitably and growth in 2025 and beyond."
Warner Bros. head of games and streaming JB Perrette went into more candid detail about the closures and cancellations in a staff memo seen by Bloomberg. "The quality of too many of our new releases has really missed the mark," Perrette wrote. "We need to make some substantial changes to our portfolio/team structure if we are to commit the necessary resources to get back to a 'fewer but bigger franchises' strategy.
Monolith Productions was the longest-running of the three studios hit by Warner Bros.'s closures. Founded in 1994, it developed an impressive portfolio of acclaimed titles over the years, including The Operative: No One Lives Forever, F.E.A.R, Condemned: Criminal Origins, and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Warner Bros. Games San Diego was founded in 2019, while Player First Games - responsible for ill-fated free-to-play fighter MultiVersus - was established in 2021. Warner Bros. hasn't revealed how many employees will lose their jobs as a result of its "strategic change in direction".
It likely was Monolith in name only, it's still sad to see a studio with such heritage go to shit like this

What a rotten way to die, still Monolith's last genuinely good games to me are dated 2006 so we're talking about something that was already a stumbling zombie wearing clown pants.
It’s a shame but hopefully they will allow other developers to use the Nemesis System
The patent on that doesn't expire until 2036 - so now no one will be able to use it and an awesome mechanic will be left to rot in the dregs of time. Another win for patent/copyright law!
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Following Shadow of War's release in 2017, Monolith was not interested in making another LOTR game and began developing an original IP codenamed Legacy. After Legacy was cancelled by WB in 2021, Monolith's entire leadership team and many other devs quit. Most of these devs went on to form Cliffhanger Games with EA, and are currently developing a Black Panther game.
Monolith then began work on Wonder Woman around May/June 2021. The game would be revealed at the Game Awards 6 months later. Monolith was forced to work on Wonder Woman while simultaneously rebuilding their staff and leadership team.
During development, a debate emerged about whether to use Monolith's in-house engine for Wonder Woman, or switch to Unreal Engine. They eventually decided to stick with the in-house engine, but often ran into problems as many of the programers and engineers who knew how to properly utilize the engine had already quit.
Around late 2023/early 2024, Wonder Woman was completely rebooted. The game changed directors, the Nemesis System was removed, and the game was changed to be a more traditional action-adventure game similar to God of War.
Monolith devs had no beforehand knowledge of the studios closure. They learned about it on Tuesday, shortly before we all did.
WB Montreal:
Following the release of Arkham Origins in 2013, WB Montreal began development on two games: their own Suicide Squad game and a sequel to Arkham Knight focused on Damian Wayne. Both were eventually cancelled, and they began developing Gotham Knights in 2017.
Gotham Knights was originally intended to be live-service, but they reversed course. According to Schreier, the game itself wasn't changed much by this, it was more like WB just decided to scrap the post-launch plans.
Schreier says the "Gotham Knights 1.5" he mentioned previously in his article would have actually been a separate, smaller game like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, but it wasn't approved. As he also mentioned in the article, WB Montreal pitched a Constantine game that was never greenlit, and then began working on a Flash game that was cancelled after the movie flopped.
Following Gotham Knights failure, some execs at WB Games wanted WB Montreal to become a support studio, and many devs were put on support for Wonder Woman and other games. As of now, WB Montreal is currently pitching a new game based on Game of Thrones.
Other WB studios:
Schreier reconfirms that Rocksteady is in early development on a new Batman game.
As was previously posted on this sub, TT Games is working on a new Lego game that is planned to release next year. He doesn't say exactly what it is, but there have been rumors that it's a new Lego Harry Potter that adapts the whole franchise in the same vein as Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
As previously reported, Avalanche is working on a Director's Cut of Hogwarts Legacy with new DLC; many Rocksteady devs are also working on it. Avalanche is also in early development on Hogwarts Legacy 2, but that's still a long ways off.
I can see your soul at the edges of your eyes..
