Hi,

I have the following spec and more RAM is required for emulating routers, and gaming of course.

Spec:

AMD Ryzen 5 3400
ASUS TUF B450 Plus Gaming
16GB (1 DIMM) Kingston DDR4 2666MHz (according to CPU Z)

I need more RAM but not sure what to get. I would remove the current module because it's 2600 only.

2x Kingston 16GB 3600MHz DDR4
2x Kingston DDR4 16GB 3600MHz HyperX Fury (50 Euro more than non HyperX)

I'd say go for it. 32GB is an actual standard if ya do a ton of things and wanna go future proof without spending too much money.

As long as you pick those 3600mhz speeds you should be fine

probably 50 Euro more for a difference only found in benchmarks or something, not real world performance. At least anything significant

Thanks to both of you. I will go with the non HyperX modules.

amd ryzen 5 3400g
AMD's tech specs claim that 2933 MHz is the maximum supported ram speed.

That's the same thing as for other CPUs tho, 2933MHz is just the highest "supported" speed : you can go beyond that limit of sorts with XMP/AMP profiles, 3200 is apparently the sweet spot for the R5 3400, and no gains are made past 3600 at all. Smile

Hey thanks for letting me know. I will probably get the 3000 or 3200 modules.

Not sure if I can overclock my 16GB module that I currently have is Kingston 2666 MHz (Nanya tech).
In this case I would need to buy only one more module at 3000MHz clock speed.

Gotta agree Smile Don't be fooled by 3800/4300+ is better than 3200 etc. It just wont matter Wink

Likewise with new DDR5, lol, just stick with DDR4, as unless your a fuckin nerd?, it's gonna do ya Jack shit, apart from busting your wallet Smile Kinda like the fools who try to clock said RAM, and wonder why their system is unstable lol. Hey I get 2ms more than you, as I'm at 3606 on my 3200 set Laughing Heap of utter crock.

RAM is something you stick in, and leave it alone. CPU/GPU, well clock to your hearts content, but In all my years of owning a PC, never have I clocked any RAM, as if you manage to pull it off?, stability wise, what are you gaining? - Fuck-all!, apart from numbers bigger than your dick, and your Photoshop loading quicker than mine lol, by 2ms Wink

Performance on PC is taking all the things into account; ram speed, overlocks for CPU/GPU, tweaking BIOS settings, driver and OS tweaking etc etc.. Take ONE of these things out (let's say RAM speed) and sure, it won't matter much, but you can also argue that if you do all the little things they'll add up, it'll give a good boost that will be noticeable.

But yes, it's nerd territory for sure, which can be a lot of fun, or it's total bore if you're just someone who prefers to play games.

I'm currently tweaking my router/ping for my Quest 2.. down to around 25ms latency from 45-50ms.. all the tiny things i've done has added up. If i'd done just one thing, then sure, it wouldn't have mattered much and it would have felt like a waste. It's the sum of all parts that matters.
