20 years after the award-winning action adventure hit, Outcast, pioneered the genre of non-linear open-world games, the long-awaited sequel sees Cutter Slade return to the spectacular alien world of Adelpha. Resurrected by the almighty Yods, he has returned to find the Talans enslaved, the world stripped of its natural resources, and his own past intertwining with the invading robot forces. It's up to him to go on a mission and save the planet again.
The original team behind Outcast 1 has reunited to create this fascinating world, full of dangerous creatures and home to the Talan people – an ancient culture whose fate has become inextricably linked with earth since the events of the first game. You play as Cutter Slade, ex-Navy SEAL, sporting the same dry wit he had back in the 90s – however, the world around him has changed and eventually, so will he.
To save Adelpha, you will …
use your jetpack to jump, air-dash, glide, and quickly traverse the fantastic in-game open world
combine dozens of different modules to create your own personal weapon for taking down the robot invaders
have total control to approach the story at your own pace in this non-linear world
explore the world without boundaries, discover hidden temples and dangerous wildlife
get familiar with the Talan culture while helping them free their villages and gain access to ancient Talan powers that use forces of nature to destroy your enemies
experience a beautiful, hand-crafted world accompanied by an epic soundtrack by Outcast's original composer, Lennie Moore
I loved Outcast, I really did back then, I still replay occasionally it despite its clunkiness, it still manages to capture that epic feeling for me.
The beginning of the trailer had me going for a while.. Maybe we'll be playing as an Adelphian this time around ? Why not !
..But then those alien robots, or whatever they are, those are the antagonists ? What is even the story behind to link it with Outcast 1 in order to turn it into nu-Avatar ? Cherry on top, actual gameplay, this crap console-ish gameplay, the "new" Cutter Slade.. I'm out... What the fuck Appeal.

it probably means the release date is coming soon, but obviously it can be mistaken for the game is being released soon. Intentional to trick people, up the interest, sell games (when pre-order shows up).
For Gothic Remake the planned release date has been coming soon for a year so it's already ridiculous.
I remember Release date: TBD... a bit too honest for today's market i guess..
Aaah voxels we're quite a gimmick back in the day.
They did pull something quite amazing back in the day, Outcast looked more than up to par with all the early 3D-accelerated stuff back then The water reflections in particular were a beauty ! But you needed a beefy CPU to support it, hehe (and so I fried my computer's PSU and pretended it went bad).

Looks really great, just compare this to Atlas Fallen or Forspoken lol, they're laughable, and i bet they cost more. Might even be better than Horizon (because of how cringy they sometimes are).
They truly went the bombastic Fuck Yeah Adelpha route with Baysplosions and a jetpack à la ELEXman on steroids, haha. I obviously don't expect it to be as charming and captivating as the original game (a product of a different time, sadly), but if the exploration will be rewarding and the writing won't be D-tier (big ifs) then it might be decent in its own way as a timesink.
I love how over the top it looks, it seems to have a very "why not?" idea over it. That can be really hard to pull off, but if they do, it just might be pretty damn awesome.
"over the top" can suck ass too, i hate it when it's too japanese, but this is typical american over the top, which i like.
These guys presenting this are so unprepared and uninformed, its wild. One of them has no idea about anything at all, the other one skimped through wikipedia for all of 2 minutes and can barelly articulate 3 words about it. He wasn't playing on PC back then
Whatever, they didn't played the original. So that forbids them to preview the game or something.
The clip looks awfull though. Empty world. Shallow action. Feels like a just cause 4 without the exploding stuff. Also the previewers kinda hint that the story isn't all that great with weird alien conversations. Avatar does the alien world thing better.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
The fact they didn't play the original before doesn't disqualify them per se, but yeah, you could argue a movie critic should watch a first instalment in a series before commenting on a sequel in a complete vacuum. This GI preview was god awful.
Yeah, wasn't hyped before, I'm not very much either now. Where's the diversity in landscapes that the first had ? Everything looks Avatar-ey with a lot of verticality.
Too bad.

its not the fact that they didnt play the first one specifically, its how unprepared they are for covering this. The guy talking literally doesnt know anything and cant answer a couple of questions the other guy had. He just skimped through wikipedia 5 minutes before recording this. The other guy is just stealing air, he doesnt even know what they're looking at. What year did it came out, what fucking genre it was.
A very unprofessional video. Do a bit of homework before you record a video talking about something, no ? And yeah, i would think you fucking need to play the prequel for the game you're recording yourself talking about, so you actually know what's changed, what happened and so on. Back in the age of reading magazines i dont remember a single instance, ever, of an editor writing about a game and not having played the previous ones in a series. EVER. You're not properly equiped to inform your viewers about anything if you lack knowledge this vital.
Nice to see demo's are a thing again though. As it should be.
Like the industry expects you to pay up 70 euro's going in blind.
That's my problem with buying games. Don't mind to spend the money, dev's work has to be rewarded. But I only like about 30% the games I try and it's such a waste of money sometimes. And I like to try a lot of games, getting harder with denuvo these days.
Edit:
aaand it's yank but could be fun for 10 hours max. Isodemo it is. Feels like Avatar Pandora and Elex 2 had an ugly baby. Microstutters all over but I guess that will be fixed at release. The game feels like a 10 year old game anyway, performance should be fine.
Also weird they limit the demo time to 20 minutes twice. Why?? Afraid people see the bad stuff soon enough.
