I just installed Bazzite, I‘m shocked at how easy it went and how well all my Games perform. Not sure that I‘ll do a complete switch just yet. It depends on how well modding works but this is very far from my last Linux adventure some 20 years ago.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

CachyOS or GTFO Troll Dad

I've switched from Windows like last year and never looked back. All my games work just fine and most of the apps are web apps anyway. OS is irrelevant unless you're into Adobe

My specs:
Ryzen 5950x @ boosting 5ghz, Gigabyte x570 Aorus Master, 128gb G.Skill Trident Neo pc3600 ram, nVidia RTX 5080, SoundBlasterX G6, Samsung 980 Pro m.2 1TB and Hynix m.2 1TB storage SSD. Custom watercooling loop.

OS: CachyOS because fuck Windows!

Derpsole: Nintendo Switch, Derpstation 5 Pro

Bazzite seemed the more noobfriendly version to me. And hey, it really just works, its fast and seems to have everything I need. Maybe CachyOS is better but I‘m not distrohopping just yet. Very Happy

My only issue wiht Bazzite is that it's an immutable OS. You're pretty much relying on flatpaks and stuff like that.

Which honestly, isnt a bad thing. Bringing this back on topic, not sure what OS France decided to go with but I'm hoping that it is immutable so that it contains safeguards from having users royally mess up their systems.

CachyOS can be very unstable with the cavalier way they push updates and break stuff. The issue with Bazzite is how opinionated it is, and due to the nature of it being "immutable" (root mounted as read-onlly), once you do hit issues, it's hard to deal with them in a sustainable manner.
