Van Helsing, a 13-episode sci-fi series from Nomadic Pictures (Fargo, Hell On Wheels), has been acquired by Syfy. Neil LaBute serves as writer/showrunner on the drama, a new take on the Dracula myth.
Van Helsing, which begins production in January 2016 in Vancouver, BC for a fall 2016 premiere, centers on Vanessa Helsing, the daughter of famous vampire hunter and Dracula nemesis Abraham Van Helsing. She is resurrected five years in the future to find out that vampires have taken over the world and that she possesses unique power over them. She is humanity’s last hope to lead an offensive to take back what has been lost.
“Van Helsing represents a new mythology in sci-fi by challenging traditional vampire rules,” said Chad Oakes, Co-Chairman of Calgary-based Nomadic Pictures. “The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival.”
Added Chris Regina, SVP, Program Strategy, Syfy,“Van Helsing reimagines a classic story in a compelling new way, featuring a bold and complex heroine.”
Van Helsing is produced by Nomadic Pictures. Executive Producers are Chad Oakes & Mike Frislev from Nomadic Pictures, LaBute, Simon Barry (Continuum), Evan Tyler (Industry Works), Dave Brown (Echo Lake Entertainment) as well as Daniel March (Dynamic). Nomadic Pictures will distribute the series within Canada, Fallout Asylum and Dynamic Television will distribute the series (initial window) in the United States and Dynamic Television will distribute the series throughout the rest of the world.
Why not name it Vanessa Helsing if Van won't be the focus of the show? The same thing happened with Fury Road. The movie was Mad Max
only in name as for all intents and purposes it was Imperator Furiosa: Mad Road.
I've watched the pilot.. this is so gonna get cancelled but I guess it was pretty obvious from the teasers.
Whoever is in charge there is a fucking clown though..Why does syfy waste money on this? They should just cancel all the shit they have and use all this money to get proper writers, proper actors, make proper CGI and create 3-4 good shows and stick with them.
How the fuck does this constantly get renewed and Blood Drive was cancelled?
Hasn't this been the trend for years? Trash gets renewed, sometimes two or three years in advance, while original ideas that have substance and merit get shit-canned after the first season (sometimes they don't even finish that).
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.
