Resident Evil Village will receive a demo on both PlayStation 5 and PS4, granting you access to the village area and the castle — both locations we've seen during gameplay footage. Players on PS5 and PS4 have an eight-hour window over the course of two weekends where they can play the demo early. Pre-load for the demo will go live later today on the PS Store.
The first part, situated in the village area, takes place overnight and depends entirely on what part of the world you're from. US players will be granted access from 5pm PDT on Saturday 17th April through to 1am PDT and European users can play starting 6pm BST / 7pm CEST on Sunday 18th April. Again, you'll have an eight-hour timeslot in which to take your 30-minute session.
Then, one week later, Capcom opens up access to the castle part of the demo. For US players, this takes place on Saturday 24th April at 5pm PDT through until 1am PDT. EU users gain access on 25th April at 6pm BST / 7pm CEST. You will once again have 30 minutes to play.
Each of these two demos will last for 30 minutes and allow you to explore the corresponding areas as you please. Finally, these two sections of the demo come together in early May when you can play the same two sequences back to back in a 60-minute demo. It's all the same content, just to be clear. This final demo takes place on 1st May for US players and 2nd May for UK and EU users. It will stick around for exactly 24 hours.
Ok so Playstation gets to play first for 30 minutes this weekend and next weekend and then everyone else gets to play from 1st May for 60 minutes, I think
Why the fuck is the demo so limited and convoluted? :/
Apparently it runs at 45fps on PS5 if you want 4K with raytracing? how the fuck is that going to work without VRR?
Plebs will go for that option because they will want the RT and 45fps sounds better than 30fps, and then wonder why their head hurts a few hours later from the judder or tearing.
I think that having it running at 4K 60fps is more then enough, RT is an option i don't care so much and as long as they have a decent res and 60fps i'm more then satisfied. I also have C9 that should be running VRR but don't know how it works still, don't think any game i played used it yet.
I finished the village demo with 3 minutes left lol. I like how you can barricade the doors and the framerate feels good too even with raytracing on although it might be different when there’s more enemies on screen. There are three wells in the village so I bet you can go underground in the full game. I have a two profiles on my console so it let me play through it again. I skipped cutscenes the 2nd time and had 20 minutes of nothing to do lol. Pretty impressed with it though and looking forward to the castle demo next weekend.
Played the Castle demo through, had an hour since I had another 30 minutes with my 2nd profile. It was good, better than the Village demo I thought. If you know where to go and don’t explore, it can be done in 10 minutes, probably less. The Duke is a proper fat bastard lol.
Don’t think I’ll bother with the demo next weekend but hyped for the full game in 2 weeks for sure!
Played 3 hours, an hour of which was literally the demo! Pretty impressed so far. The performance and visual fidelity are really good on PS5 so feels nice to play. Probably finish it tonight since it’s only about 11 hours.
Spoiler:
Within the first 3 hours I got in and out of the castle, defeated Dimitrescu and her daughters which is surprising! Surely that’s not the last of them? No spoilers lol.
Took me about 13 hours on hardcore to finish and I enjoyed it a lot. Went really slow, got lost a bunch of times, lots of backtracking, but I mean, that's every RE for me. It felt long. So no crying "ITS TOO SHORT OMG" from me for sure.
The story was cool and I like how it ties up some big loose ends from RE7 as well as connecting it with the earlier games better.
Memorable cast of villains, good variety of locations and enemies, great level design with fun RE puzzles, top of the line cutscenes etc
I'm wondering why RE7 has a better metascore than RE8 though... Seems off to me.
RE7 was more original I suppose but if I compare the two RE8 comes out on top in every aspect imo. One could argue for the baker family being the better antagonists and they were indeed great but the RE8 game just feels way more elaborate and complete than RE7
-edit-
Seems on metacritic playstation that is the case, but PC reviews, 8 is slightly in the lead. User scores 8 is in the lead on both but bigger lead on PC. Interesting.
I do believe I would have enjoyed it even more if it was 3rd person. The 1st person does enhance the tension and dread but the gameplay in RE2 Remake for example is just more fun to me.
