Please use this thread to talk about mining hardware, profitability of GPUs, mining rigs etc. That way the GPU thread can focus on gpus.

Thanks.

That is inevitable. Mining seems to come in waves. Laughing

I honestly think GPU mining has quite a limited life span (and thank god, I want affordable cards again). It's only crazy right now because of Ethereum.

Ethereum gets harder to mine the more people pile in, and if it doesn't become too difficult it's still slated to switch to proof of stake in the near future.

People might jump ship to another currency like Monero, but most of them aren't worth enough for the electricity costs.

There is also the other option of the current bitcoin bubble bursting, but I'm not convinced it'll plummet as hard this time.

And suddenly a new currency will pop up like Ethereum when the others go stale

Ya guys mining has been offlimits to those without millions to burn for ages, while Ethereum has just become tantalising again they are moving to proof of stake asap which renders GPU mining obsolete.

You would have to be very enterprising and mine some fringe emerging currency with longevity in GPU mining for it to be worthwhile.

If history repeats itself there will eventually be a 80-90% crash, you either pick some hot emerging investments and sell within 12 months, or wait for the crash to buy in long term. That's my 2c anyway, and my noob invest strategy is to go invest in things looking grim / shit or scandal that you know will turn around in a few years.

I thought Intel would be low given AMD is wrecking them but no business is good.

I suppose any more or less modern CPU downclocked and undervolted would do.

Why people prefer to use dedicated graphics cards for mining instead of Normal CPU?

Because it has the potential to "destabilize" markets? and by that I mean bring competition to the monopoly money based status quo? I don't know ask the countries that banned it already.

The old maxim, be bold when others are cautious, be cautious when others are bold.

It's how I've always managed my investments.
