The REEEEEEEEEEing will be immense and the cancellation attempts aplenty. IF this ever goes forward, that is.
WB is probably busy measuring that against possible profits if this goes ahead.

Lulz at TheWrap. That's already in the original report by THR, including my quote in the OP.
Talks have been had but nothing is in development right now. That's how things happen.. first they get talked about!

"The Harry Potter franchise has complicated rights issues. Rowling controls the franchise and has a say in everything involving the property. NBCUniversal in 2016 inked a rich seven-year rights deal with Warner Bros. Domestic TV Distribution that included U.S. broadcast, cable and streaming rights to the Wizarding World franchise. That deal, which ends in April 2025"

That's perfectly fine. LotR TV series was announced in 2017, releasing this year (maybe), 4 years later.
If a Harry Potter series happens it's going to be just as big and will take just as long that the distribution deal will come to an end and won't be an obstacle by the time it's ready.
