Publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Romero Games have announced a partnership to work together on an upcoming stategy game based on an original intellectual property.
Romero Games, led by John and Brenda Romero, are known for their work on iconic games like Doom, Quake, Jagged Alliance, Wizardry 8, and more.
“We are thrilled to work with industry legends, Brenda and John Romero, whose games we’ve grown up playing ourselves and long admired,” said Paradox Interactive CEO Ebba Ljungerud in a press release. “At Paradox Interactive, we’ve built a reputation for top-tier strategy games and we’re employing that expertise to help build something really special with the team at Romero Games.”
Romero Games co-founder Brenda Romero added, “This has been a project we’ve been wanting to work on for a long time, so it’s especially exciting that we’ll be partnering with Paradox Interactive to fully realize that dream. We can’t wait to tell everyone more, so make sure you watch this space!”
Jagged Alliance 1994 manual writer
Nemesis: The Wizardry Adventure 1996 manual and dialogue writer, scripter
Jagged Alliance 2 1999 writer
Jagged Alliance 2: Unfinished Business 2000 game and manual writer
Wizardry 8 2001 game designer, game and manual writer
what came after was playboy mansion shit, daikatana , dunno if aynthing good came from him/her in last two decades, last three games dont even have wiki links
so she knows how to write manuals , and he knows how to use his doom fame ... zzzz both obselete these days split incoming after 6-12 months when paradox milked the watery credentials for e3 and gamescom
ill grant him his apogee and id software legacy, everything after was just barf as he wallowed in afterdoom fame, while carmack was doing all the real work and kept innovating ( from what i think how things went back then after doom)
Holy shit - a new gangsters game! We haven't had one of those since Omerta: City of Gangsters in 2013 (which everyone, for some reason, crapped all over).
This is such an awesome era that is tragically underutilized in gaming - and when they do try something precious few do it right (the abomination that was Mafia III for example).
Please don't fuck it up....please don't fuck it up....oh, it's Romero.

Sadly there will never be another Gangsters game. It will not be profitable in 2020 with how casual the industry has become. EoS so far confirms my initial impression it's another Omerta: CoG/Gangland/XCOM shallow hybrid.
Elvira Duarte is not only a mobster boss in Empire of Sin, she is also based on industry legend John Romero’s real life great-grandmother. From the team behind Empire of Sin: happy Mother's Day to all mobster matriarchs out there!
It looks a lot better than I expected tbh. The fact they have Angelo Genna in there is a good sign, at least they did their work to include a legendary gangster from 1920s Chicago.
Back in the middle of May Paradox posted a game-play podcast with Romero's wife and the combat designer - it's a bit lengthy but you can skip through it here and there to get a sense. I hate that the bitch keeps cutting the guy off as he's trying to explain things and get to important points.
Basically, combat is turn based, but wandering the city, upgrading buildings and character skills takes real time in addition to resources. They mention something about there being a time limit as well (but most likely will be customizable seeing as how it's a Paradox game)

It's a shame they're choosing to paywall 4 gangsters behind a "Deluxe" edition - would have purchased it otherwise. I guess this is for the best anyway, as I don't see Paradox stopping at a single measly season pass.

I preordered, just in case they fix the prices again ^^ It's 8.50€ for the prem edition, instead of 69? "you know where" and if I don't like:e, I refund
If it was a PDX game the complaints might not have been a big deal, but they are only the publisher and this is the first big project by the developer. I was thinking of buying it since I love the time period and the genre, but I'll yarr it instead.
