I was bummed when Epic games decided to halt development of what was supposed to be a new Unreal Tournament game.
Every now and then I play some CS:GO but its pace is much slower than a good UT match.
Is there any modern replacement with good servers in Europe?

i had a lot of fun coop-ing through the latest wolfenstein with a friend, because it both felt like oldschool fps, but also different, because it was two-player coop against the enemies
And there have been a lot of games, that tried to evoke different kinds of nostalgia fps feelings. Like Bloom (which also looks like the build-game era games, it is referencing) or Wrack, which is trying to achieve the same thing but with a bit of a different take on the graphics.
I know i ve been playing other fps games, that tried to give you the feel of q3a / unreal tournament, but none really got there properly for me, apart from maybe the latest two dooms (but both are more like quake than unreal, really)

This is somewhat hard to answer. Define replacement?
What is the core value(s) that you cherris in UT?
Without those I can give you like 1000+ answers and most of them (if not all) will be shit.
For me nothing can replace UT classic.

Thanks everyone!
I'm downloading Quake Champions now to give it a try. It's my first pick because it's the most accessible (free + doesn't require mods).
I'm mostly looking for very fast paced action, we can break it down to:
1. Respawn - Immediate or close to immediate.
2. Aiming - doesn't take into account realistic weapon recoil - your weapon will always shoot where the crosshair is.
3. Gravity & Speed - everything is moving very fast and staying with 2 feet on the ground is rare.
4. Multiple game mods - deathmatch is cool, but having CTF, Assault, etc. was great!

OHH maybe its the difference in what is 'UT', to me the first unreal tournament [UT99] is the only 'true' UT. All the rest is...weird unneeded extras ( like some versions having one or more of: vehicles, powers, jetpacks, etc).
Quake 3 Arena and UT99 are 'Truly pure FPS' games to me. But might be my age. Quake 2 MP was 'the place to be' until Q3/UT99 came out.
Suppose its the same as Doom to me. My late teens/early 20's was the first original doom. doom3 came and it was 'ok-ish' then the rest of them was: what is this quick time actions, story driven crap??

The shooters we used to play for days back in the 2000 - Quake 2/Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament 99, Soldier of Fortune, Delta Force 1/2 and Half-Life!
So many great maps in all these. Kill 10 people in a row, get killed by some lucky shot, shout like crazy, respawn, repeat.
But still loved later multiplayer shooter such as UT04, Battlefield 1942, or Tribes Ascent. Especially the former felt like an improvement to everything - flawless shooting, big open maps, powerful but not too much vehicles. Loved them even more than the "old dogs".

I've had a nostalgia attack in 2020 and replayed all classic shooters, so my experience is still fresh.
UT 99 didn't age well IMO. I'm not talking about the graphics, it's just that the shooting feels lame, like instead of bullets into living meat, I'm firing little stones at bowling pins which just bounce back. UT2004 is a dramatic improvement over it and it shows clearly with every year passed.
Q3 still stands solid as a timeless classic and essentially a perfect arena FPS (also IMO).

@Guy_Incognito
I still enjoy UT99 with friends on occasion now and then. But Q3 on steam we play a couple times a month. It's the "Classic Car" of old school FPS games I feel. It never goes out of style or fashion. It might not have the bells and whistles of new games but like the old car thats what makes it great, it doesn't need that fluff. And like a classic car they can't ever remake one just like it.

I agree if it was named a different game it would be an amazing game. But its not "Tribes" anymore.
Tribes [to me] was about tactics and teamwork in MP. The engineer making a well planned base defense and streamlining deploying it as well as setting up the launcher pads for heavies to use to jet themselves to the enemy base, scouts and other 'lights' knocking out heavies, heavies attacking from a distance to get the...hell what was they called, the medium guys that can counter defenses in.
Ascent felt more like fortnite type gameplay: Spam defense and walls randomly as fast as possible because everyone just snorted 10 lines of coke and is zipping around like a batch of wasps around your base.

Tribes was such a great concept. Loved T2. T:A was a lot scaled down and Hi-rez killed it, as they do.
I'd love a current tech Tribes 3. But I don't think that will ever happen. Especially not with Hi-rez.

So I took some of the recommendations and tried:
1. Diabotical - cute game but the main problem is that the matches are too small (2vs2 most of the time), and it's just not vicious.
2. Quake Champions - definitely leaning towards free-2-play monetization schemes that I don't like. The game itself is similar to UT but just doesn't have the same feeling. No strafing, the pace feels somewhat slower, the music is bad. UT had some really good music at times.
Maybe I'm just being nostalgic and there can't be an excellent modern version.
