Hi all.

I am thinking on getting this Oculus quest 2 vr pc headset has anyone got one?
Ill be using it with the pc seeing how i bought a new pc a few months back but seen the price of the Usb c cable is like 80 pounds but seen others using alot cheaper version as long as it is usb 3.0.
I will be buying the virtual desktop app and get it set up.
Just wanting peoples opinions on it?

Thanks alot.

I have a ~20GBP 5m USB 3.0 cable, works flawlessly. I also have virtual desktop with a wifi6 router, also works great. I don't have a comparison to any other headset.

yes, I'm very happy, especially if you consider this an entry/starter VR headset. Great value for the price they are asking. I bought it directly from Oculus, no idea if there are any retailers in UK

I've ordered one today with the elite strap but won't be able to play with it until Christmas. Was half tempted to order a replacement silicone cover from vrcover as some reviews say it's not that comfortable but they want to charge 14 euros for delivery. Anyone have any decent alternatives?

Elite Strap seems to break.

I have quest 2 as well. I only play wirelessly using VD. It's really cool, with no effective input lag.

It's really good however the initial charm lasted me like 5 days or so. Its really awesome but that wow effect that you are "inside" the game is no longer there for me.

I really don't get it why is this an entry level stuff.
Better than rift, and also specs wise:
Better resolution then index, and also refresh rate is 90hz with possible 120hz in the future.

Ok reverb is probably even higher res but its cable all the way.

im really not into vr. i don't care about the facebook account which you have to use, but how is it with games? are there cracked games? can you buy them cheap like with normal games on cdkey.com etc? or do you have to buy them from the facebook store (or whatever it's called)? what is with steam vr games, will they run?
really like what i hear about this vr headset and the price is also ok, if i can get the games free or cheap, it's maybe worth a try.

yes you can either buy it from oculus store or steam store or any other, they will work with this headset.

If you buy it from oculus and the game has a native version for quest you will probably get both versions (quest and PC), so that's probably a big plus for oculus store. (Walking dead saints and sinners is a perfect example) (These are crossbuy games). The only downside is that the saves are not compatible with each other though.

Yes there are pirated games available as well and they will play just fine.

What you will probably need to buy is Virtual Desktop app so that you can use the quest 2 wirelessly for playing games. But if you are perfectly ok with wired configuration you wont even need that.

BTW battery life is like 2-2,5 hours.

Maybe I expressed myself wrong, what I meant is that the price for sure is not enthusiast levels like index or reverb and the value you get for that is insane.

No, it was me who phrased it wrong, because I not meant specifically you, it's that everyone calls the quest 2 as an entry level VR headset.

With battery.
Its been out of stock everywhere until now.

The extra battery is great, not just because the extra power - but its weight helps balance the headset better.

Edit: Easier for people with glasses to put on now too. Much easier .

tbh - it was easy enough to enable developer mode and sideload the addon for VD anyway. Anybody who has a Quest 1/2 and a VR compatible PC shoulda been doing it already as it wasn't as if it was a jailbreak. I'd still recommend developer mode for sideloading other apps as well as the option to turn the guardian off.

how well does that virtual desktop run vs the cable?

I'm still using a modified HTC Vive with gearVR lenses and that seems to work well but would love to do away with cable.

Was tempted to get the wireless adapter but shit is expensive.

My specs:
Ryzen 5950x @ boosting 5ghz, Gigabyte x570 Aorus Master, 32gb G.Skill Trident Neo pc3600 ram, nVidia RTX 5080, SoundBlasterX G6, Samsung 980 Pro m.2 1TB and Hynix m.2 1TB storage SSD. Custom watercooling loop.

Derpsole: Nintendo Switch, Derpstation 5 Pro

It is really good. I would even go as far as saying no percievable lag between the wired vs wireless Virtual desktop stuff.

I'm only using wired for seated games (I expect you to die, battlezone etc) so it can charge the headset.

These are some of the games that I have played wireless: Alyx, Boneworks, Asgard Wrath, Borderlands 2 VR, GORN, Budget Cuts.

I think asgard was the only game where you could see some encoding artifacts but the others were really good.

My overall experience is that I don't want to go wired, there are no benefits.

Haven't even tried wired on Quest 2 - I have a WMR headset as well and that's wired of course so I have a baseline comparison. But I play wireless Quest 2 in the next room (only a window between me and my PC - about 7m away and wireless 5Ghz) with a DS4 joypad via bluetooth as well. I don't get any problems. There must be some lag but it's imperceptible to me and performance is great. I bought the Quest 2 for my missus actually Aww Yeah
