Hi all,

I am looking for a solution to better work with my private photos. My current situation is that I have loads of photos on my Synology NAS, mostly from Iphone Backups (most of them from the wife...). The total number of photos is somewhere in the 10s of thousands, mostly because it's some random stuff.

Most of the files are named like this: 20201116173120 like year/month/day/time but also of course carry that info in the meta-info.

While Synology does have their own photo software and "Moments" as well, it's just not fit for my purpose. Usually I will look for photos from a certain timeframe, but just looking for this is a pain. The Synology software works in browser and shows them in chronolical order and when you have too many photos showing it hangs up.

Going with Windows explorer is not better either, because of how long it takes for the previews of pictures to load, which is usually only the ones being shown on screen.

Basically I only need a software that will cache the previews for photos and then also quickly let me sort/filter them by date. Advanced functions could be nice, but are not a requirement.

It also doesn't need to have a cloud solution or anything, it could be an "offline" Windows program with just local cache and stuff.

While a software like that does seem rather straightforward, either I am just too stupid to find something stupid or my use-case is apparently quite unusual after all...

Happy to hear any recommendations!

Lightroom or Luminar.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

I used to use Lightroom for management (good RAW support). It used to be very fast at loading previews and displaying albums. I have since moved to Apple Photos for cloud storage, but also good RAW support. The editing capabilities are not as good as Lightroom, but are good enough to keep it all under the same software.
