Not sure where to post this really, feel free to move it.

I need some audiobook advice, I've just finished about twenty books that i knew i wanted to read/listen to but not sure what to go with now. I'm not an avid reader of books so chances are that whatever you recommend, I haven't read/listened to Wink

I mostly just listen to them when I work and I've come so far that I get really annoyed and think everything moves too slow when I'm not listening to something Wink

I can go for pretty much anything that you'd say is good, but specifically if you know the audiobook is good (some narrators suck, so just because a certain book is good it doesn't necessarily mean the audiobook is).

I really like books about spies or military history. Smile

I really enjoyed "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand but I'm not too sure which version it was (would have to look it up on my pc - right now i just got my notebook)
But then again it's not what you might consider an "easy read" or an "easy listening" since it's rather heavy on the philosophical and economical part but i enjoyed it.
and i really enjoyed most of the Terry Pratchett Audiobooks done by the BBC
i read somewhere that Stephen Fry has done some audiobooks and i'm sure they're bound to be good since Stephen Fry rocks ^^

Saviour by Chuck Palahniuk is an awesome audio book, because it was written as a monologue recorded onto a plane's flight recorder. So when you hear it being read, it's exactly like you're listening to the recording. I don't know if it's intentional, but as an audio book it makes it pretty unique.

Anybody who's read Survivor can back me up on this, and I know someone in here must have. Rolling Eyes

got it right the second time at least Wink (saviour vs. survivor).

and yeah, that is an amazing book, probably my favourite by Palahniuk Smile A lot of his stuff is 'first person narrative' so any would be a good audiobook Smile

I know what I meant.

Pretty cool Freudian slip, but I still felt stupid. I had a feeling you'd read it, Nouse, because of my Fight Club 2 thread from ages ago. Seen Choke yet?

Cool. I haven't read Haunted yet, but Survivor could be awesome. I think most of Palahniuk's books will end up getting adapted eventually, for better or worse.

I read it a few years ago and all I remember thinking was, this guy is sooo messed up. He said somewhere that all his stuff is based on people he knows, and the way it's written, I guess he knows them well.

Thanks for the link, it's definately worth another read.

Thanks for all the replies Surprised

I just had a thought here, might be cool to do this in the same fashion as the "Latest watched movie"-thread, with the title, a score and perhaps a little mini-review.

Since it's my first post in this manner I'll list what I've listened to so far Smile

Listened to:
- Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (complete collection) by Douglas Adams - 8/10 - The book is a solid 10/10 and while the audiobook IS good, it's easy to get a little annoyed when the narrator's doing "alien voices".
- Hamilton (all twelve books from "Coq Rouge" to "Men inte om det gäller din dotter") by Jan Guillou - 10/10 - Swedish book-series about a secret agent, some books are 10/10 while others are 6/10 but all in all, very good stuff and definitely a 10/10 for the series as a whole. Great narrator. (Swedish)

Currently listening to:
- Två nötcreme och en moviebox, by Filip Hammar & Fredrik Wikingsson (Swedish)

Plan on listening to next:
- Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk

Gaming - Intel Quad Q9450 @ 3.2GHZ | Radeon HD 4870 X2 2GB | SB X-Fi | PC6400 8GB | 300GB Velociraptor

All right time for a little update Wink

Listened to:
- Två nötcreme och en moviebox by Filip Hammar & Fredrik Wikingsson - 8/10 - If you like their sort of comedy it's great fun, me being born in 1984 don't get all the references (it's based around growing up in the 1970's) but alot still applies. (Swedish)
- Red Storm Rising (Swedish Translation) by Tom Clancy - 6/10 - Good story, however it's hard to fit an entire world war into a single book. The narration was acceptable at best.

Currently listening to:
- The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy

Plan on listening to next:
- Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk
- The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli
- The continuation of the Jack Ryan-books by Tom Clancy

I would recommend an audiobook of any of Neal Stephenson's books, but on second thought audio would not do it justice Sad Try anything by George R. R. Martin, good time passers while sitting in the police station Smile

Update time again Smile

Summer is coming and with summer comes six weeks of work and I need some new tips. What I would really love is some book or series of books about military special forces or aviation.

Listened to:
- Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk - 10/10 - Awesome story and it works great as an audiobook. Just love his style of storytelling.
- Män som hatar kvinnor by Stieg Larsson - 8/10 - Mainstream book but I really liked it. Pretty cool "whodunnit"-story. (Swedish)
- Flickan som lekte med elden by Stieg Larsson - 9/10 - Great continuation of Män som hatar kvinnor. A lot more intense. (Swedish)
- The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli - 7/10 - Fucking cool to be honest even though it's so old. Extra fun if you're into medieval history and games such as Total War.

Currently listening to:
- Nothing at the moment.

Plan on listening to next:
- Luftslottet som sprängdes by Stieg Larsson
- Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk

yet again, the LOTR bbc radioplay is sooo much better. OK, it may be heavily abridged, but with a slew of actors/actresses and sound effects/music thrown in for good measure.

Yea the BBC adaptation of LOTR is one of the best radio plays of all times I would say. But be ready for a long ride, it's over 13 hours or so.

Mh can anyone give me a source for audiobooks?

Im currently searching for the fourth book of the Casters Chronicles ( Beautiful Redemption) by Kami Garcia. I found the first 3 books on some public tracker, but i cant seem to find a working download for the fourth one.

I tried bitme.org, and OiNK but both are private and invitation only :/
