The enchanting world of “Willow,” created by George Lucas, is officially coming to the small screen.
Disney Plus has confirmed a sequel series taking place years after the events of the original Ron Howard-directed pic is heading into production next year. Howard is returning to the project as executive producer alongside original star Warwick Davis, who will once again play the titular hero Willow Ufgood.
The series has also tapped “Crazy Rich Asians” and “In the Heights” director Jon M. Chu to helm the pilot and exec produce. Jonathan Kasdan (“Solo”) and Wendy Mericle (“Arrow”) will serve as showrunners.

It’s been a while since I seen the original but this just seems way off in terms of tone. No grittiness or darkness evident in this new trailer. I think i may just be reminiscing about 80s fantasy films though.
They say Madmartigen plays a big part of this first season but they could not get Val Kilmer due to them filming during the Pandemic so it will be interesting how they work around that but it seems they will get him for a second season if it does well enough for them to make another season.

I saw the original again a few weeks ago, it didn't age well imo It would have been better if it stayed in our memories.
Also, the "Willow universe" has absolutely nothing in it. It's an extremely generic fantasy world, with only one or two specific places and kingdoms mentioned. What's next, a Princess Bride show? (fuck, I jinxed it, didn't I?)
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
Willow was shit even when it was new, very generic and just bad imo. I say that as someone who's always watched anything Fantasy. I actually don't know of any Fantasy fans who praises that movie.
Also midgets cast as dwarves is so idiotic, they have none of the characteristics apart from being short midgets can be decent as gnomes and leprechauns. I guess you could say it does make Dwarves less "generic", but if there's something i would want in Fantasy it's actually generic/typical dwarves, because they're awesome.

Playing the kind of dwarfs you would expect in D&D/Middle Earth...you are right, but the whole point of fantasy is that it can be pretty much anything they want. So imo its no big deal with having a dwarf play a fantasy dwarf...as long as its not one from the two i mentioned or similar where they have already established how the dwarfs look.
I personally think willow was a good movie when it was released, the only two things in it i disliked was the meaningless transformation scene which was waaaay to long and i wouldnt mind stomping on the brownies with my boots.
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.
I understood, and i'm not sure i really agree that Fantasy can be anything. There's appeal to sticking to classic Fantasy lore, i think a lot of people want to feel that recognition, if you're playing a fantasy RPG or a reading a fantasy book you will get more immersed because it resembles what you are already invested in.
It's also not just that they have their very recognizable midget look. Have you seen them walk... many of them struggle a ton with it they come off as handicapped more than a "cool race". Nah, not a fan.
I tend to agree. The ones that get cast in movies are usually those with "normal" looking heads/faces (like Peter Dinklage and Warwick Davies), but their bodies are still deformed.
Comparing the opening scenes of Willow's village, with the ones from the Shire in the LotR trilogy, I know what I prefer.

I lasted 5 minutes of the first episode. Fasted wank ever. First few minutes looked like teen drama and that was it.

What a disappointment. It had only like 10% of interesting things baked in, like some sceneries and special FX or seeing Warwick Davis reprising his role. But even me, a sucker for sci-fi, fantasy and whatever escapism you can dramatise properly, cringed more often than not with the dialogue and some forced scenes of PC embarrassment. And I am what you would call a 'progressist and leftard'
Such a shame.
Spoiler:
I've giggled like a kid with the last frame tho, seeing the two-headed dragon in that warzone landscape was very cool
There will be no second season of Willow, Disney+’s live-action original series based on the 1988 fantasy film directed by Ron Howard. The news comes two months after the eight-episode first season of the show, which served as a sequel to the classic movie, ended its run on the streaming platform.
