The Inquisitor is set in a fictional medieval setting where Jesus has established a reign of terror after his crucifixion. As an inquisitor in the name of the Lord, you must seek out heretics.
Be the ultimate Holy Judge and Jury: Your role as an Inquisitor is to maintain order and enforce the faith in God. But the world is full of sinners who have lost their way. Decide the fates of those you judge in multiple story-driven cases and missions. This is a world where morality and what is right have long strayed from each other. So, will you show mercy or undying belief in The Holy Law?
A morally tainted, non-linear tale: This is a dark and gritty story centered around a religion preaching revenge and violence. Multiple branching story choices will test your morality. Choose your path and decide what kind of Inquisitor you will be - one of pity or one of retribution - and ultimately what mark you will leave on this world.
The Inquisitor, from the Warsaw-based development team The Dust, has invited comparisons with the Witcher series from the very beginning. Just the gloomy medieval setting, the dirty streets, the rough sound... Distributed by Kalypso Media, the action-adventure looks in many ways like the ideal sequel for more hungry Witcher fans.
ок, maybe it's far from The Wither, but it's definitely worth a look
It's a fun series of books, but the author has been milking the collection of side stories ( I.Inquisitor and Fire and Cross) for 15 fucking years instead of writing the last book in the main series. In 2020 he promised it would be published in 2021, but he got sidetracked and there are no plans for it even in 2024.
As for the game it looks like Witcher 2. That's not a compliment.

In this universe a sword became his symbol, since he, you know, drowned Jerusalem in a sea of blood.
To be more precise, as far as I recall from the books I read 10+ years ago - he stepped down from the cross with a flaming sword in hand and did what you describe

Yes. Some heretics believe he died on the cross and his body was inhabited by someone else (
Spoiler:
and they might be right, judging by what beings who witnessed it and were cursed with immortality said
), but the mainstream is he punished sinners after leaving the cross.
This sounds like some radical christian wet dream. No thanks.
It's the opposite actually, pretty negative towards religion.
God is silent, the angels are crazy, the Church is completely corrupt ( to the point where the pope has witches working for him, but they burn innocents), so is Mordimer's boss (the Inquisition in general is still the last vestige of true faith) and the Jesus who came down from the cross probably wasn't even Jesus, but a demon in his body. Also the world might actually be Hell.

Actually Piekara tends to be right wing so it might be a power fantasy were Christ really went on a rampage.

He doesn't "tend to be" right wing, he is right wing. He kinda went off the rails after losing that first lawsuit against that landwhale, but he was always more or less conservative.
But his writing at best veers a bit that way. If Inquisitor is a christian power fantasy it's a fantasy of how the world got fucked up when Jesus became a bloody tyrant.
I like his books about Inquisitor I jested. I know that some people wanted to back mouth a lot of polish authors because they write for male audience and some characters in their books were chauvinistic pigs
