At least they made the ancestry of most of the cast as it should've been in this adaptation live action.
Mulan is the more "realstic" (everything relatively) feminists Disney films.
There are some exaggerations. But not as bad like in Moana that being a girl Magically makes you in a better shape then a demigod with thousands of years of experience.

Read the story of the original Disney's Mulan. It was made to start conquering Chinese market but failed because of lack of attention to details and cultural shit. Dragon included. So that's why this one looks exactly like their own asian movies.

Its a premium movie aimed at theaters much like their other live action remakes. So instead of selling it on Apple and other rental services theyre selling it on their platform to gage the interest. If it is viable they can do theatrical for 2-3 weeks and home release right after. And bluray for keeps few months down the road.
So it is a new concept but if it works it'll be great.
I think universal or paramount or some other studio struck a deal in the states for 4 week theatrical and then vod with a percentage for theaters.
