PostPosted: Wed, 26th Feb 2020 09:06    Post subject: spotify webplayer in browser, short stutter while opening
since a few days i started to use spotify and stutter or not, i plan on keep it that way.
im done with mp3s for a long time now and listened to music on youtube and soundcloud before, but it's much better to have pretty much all music in one place and that is the case with spotify.

so when i open "https://open.spotify.com" in firefox or chrome i will get a short stutter on the mouse cursor. same happens when i start playing an album.
but it will not happen when it switch to the next song or even when the album starts to play again because of repeat, just on the first press on the play button.
it's also happening when a commercial has ended and the album was playing again.

i don't have this on any other site, let it be youtube, netflix, twitch, or other media related sites.
there is a fix for some stuttering in chrome related to "Widevine Content Decryption Module" and i tried this, but it didn't helped. also like i said it happens with firefox too.

yes my pc isn't the newest and best but it should handle spotify in a browser without a stutter and even if it's just a short stutter. Laughing could become pretty shitty if i play a game and then a commercial pops up and then a stutter.

tried to reproduce it on the pc from a friend and the same happens there.
so it can't be my pc right?

is there any fix? anyone else has the problem?
thanks

Does it happen if you disable acceleration, exit Firefox and re-run it? (Ignore the Windowblinds section of the guide)

yes, im sorry should have said that in the first post right away. already tried disabling it in both firefox and chrome and it still happens. same on the pc from a friend.

does it happen for you too? it's just a short stutter on the mouse cursor when you open "https://open.spotify.com" while being logged in into your account, or while start playing a song/playlist. all the songs from the playlist run without problems then afterwards, but if you stop the playlist and start it again, the short mouse stutter will happen again. it's always on the first song you press play, afterwards it plays everything just fine without any mouse stutter.

yes i got a premium test account now because i wanted to test if it still happens.
sadly still the same.

i wonder why. i mean a twitch stream must be much more demanding then a music player. probably some drm shit going on or so. i just don't get it.
no one in here has the same problem? like i said i tested it with a friends computer and it's the same there, also on both chrome and firefox.
if i can't fix it i may test the app but it seems the app makes even more problems for people and i rather want it in the browser Sad

Maybe it is a cookie thing? Maybe clean all your cookies and re-login? Or the site's cookies/data and re-login.

Checked it out today.
Tested it out on premium and free account, no stutters for me. Streaming to the Sonos also didn't net me any stuttering either.

Both pc's that I tested it with on Firefox, Win 10 Pro (latest update).
No programs running in the background other than Battle.net and QBittorrent on the one PC.

thanks but sadly still the same. i think it would be my pc but it's happening on the pc from 2 other friends too. with my account and with their accounts. on chrome and firefox. this happens only on spotify, no other site.
and just to be sure, the music runs fine and everything else on the site too.
it's just when i open "open.spotify.com" or play a song for the first time, the mouse cursor stutters for a second.

thats happening in the console when i open the site. maybe this will help?!

Yeah its a strange one, but only way to catch what might be going on: more people testing and coming back with a detailed description of the hardware they tested it on.

Doubt it will be router/switch related though.

actually it may be possible since we all have the same router, except for the one friend who has no problems.
but it's a high end model from fitzbox, so it should work out of the box or more people would have noticed this problem.
mhhh.

i see this in firefox, when it stutters for a second
Code:
Source-Map-Fehler: Error: request failed with status 404
Ressourcen-Adresse: https://open.scdn.co/cdn/build/web-player.8882c30e.js
Source-Map-Adresse: web-player.js.map

but there is nothing special configured either on my pc or my router. like everything restricted because i want it super safe or so. im so confused

I think you may have been right when you mentioned that Widevine DRM plugin

https://community.spotify.com/t5/Other-Partners-Web-Player-etc/Web-Player-on-Chrome-causes-lag-stutter/td-p/4587103

Which version of the plugin do you have? Have you tried solutions like this one in at least 2 PCs?

I cant say which Version right now since im not on the PC, but i will tomorrow, but i tried exactly this solution on two Different PCs and for me it didnt change anything.
Also i think people with this Problem had stutters All the time and Not Just when opening the site.
But i will Look into it tomorrow again and will let you know the Version number. It Was higher then those mentioned on the site for Sure

/edit
it's 4.10.1610.0

ok i think i made a mistake. i just logged into the amazon video account from a friend and it's happening there too. im sorry.
so it's the Widevine plugin for sure.
just read something that it's happening for people with more then 2 displays connected, so im gonna try to unplug the tv now and then test it again.

still weird, all people with this problem say it lags and stutters all the time and not only when loading the page for like a second.

also i tried to replace the plugin with an older version but then it will not load any drm content at all and tells me to activate it.

/edit
still happening with only one display attached, gsync disabled, 60, 120, 144 hz, no difference
after trying some more and deleting and updating it multiple times it says version "4.10.1582.2" now Confused it was "4.10.1610.0" before

my friend with ltsc who has no problems, just send me his version of widevine, so i tried this, but it's still happening. he got the same version i had before "4.10.1610.0", so no surprise.

it must be a conflict with a driver, hardware or windows setting.
but what? there is no error log or anything. god damn.
could it be a windows service? and if yes which one? Sad

/edit2
got it working with a older version "1.4.8.1008-win-x64"
thank god and sorry for all the text in here.
thank you all for your help

/edit3
actually not really fixed
both spotify and amazon show an error now when i play anything.
site loads without stutter tho Laughing fuck my life

i may found the problem.
when i open spotify for example i get a very high dpc routine execution time on "nvlddmkm.sys" which leads to a nvidia driver.
sadly i already tried multiple drivers, with DDU, also excatly the driver one of my friend without any problems is using.
mh Confused
/edit
nah, high latency is gone when i changed the settings in the driver to maximum performance mode, but it still happens.

So to sum up, it is an incompatibility between Widevine and the Nvidia drivers on your system. Using an older Widevine plugin version fixes the problem but the sites don't work properly. Right?

The old Version seems to fix it but it may Because its not really loaded.
Chrome thinks its loaded as the current Version, but all sites detect it as outdated so nothing gets Played. If they would play it it could be that the error would still be there.

Could be the nvidia drivers, could be latency issue, im Not Sure and i think im done with finding it out unless some one is able to bring me in the right direction. I wasted whole days on this issue now.

just removed my graphics card and tested it only with the igpu and the problem was gone.
insert the nvidia card again and it happened again.
uninstalled all gpu drivers with DDU in safemode, problem was gone, but of course the card is not usable like this.
so i installed the nvidias drivers and the problem came back. also tried other drivers, older drivers etc. So it seems to be a Problem with the nvidia drivers.

turns out it's a latency issue with nvidia drivers but i can't figure out why.
also this makes sense, since my friend who has no problems uses a laptop and as far as i know there is always just the igpu running, except when he goes into games and so or not?
But why doesnt it Happen for you guys. Gonna try a fresh Windows install on an old ssd later and check it

Its under 1ms. Mostly like 0,04-0,06 but with a high DPC count but can go to 0.2-0.6ms with opening spotify.
Seems like many people with 9xx and 10xx cards face this issue also with z170 Boards which i got.
Total execution is pretty high tho and also the same with dxdiag but i guess its related
If i fix the nvidia Problem this will also be gone

Just did a clean install Windows 10 Pro 1903, still the same. Doesnt matter which driver. Also did a clear cmos, still the same.

Works without nvidia card or without nvidia drivers, but as soon As drivers get installed it happens again. Its the same for me and a friend. Different Boards Different CPUs but Both on nvidia cards.

So what is this and how is that not fixed by nvidia? There are So many posts about this on Google

Some things you can try if you haven't yet:
- Disable GSync for full screen windowed applications.
- Try balanced or high performance mode in Windows.
