No thread for this popular series? Psychological thriller in modern times, social media play a big role. Based on a book, second season is based on the sequel book. Just finished watching the first season, it was captivating and only 10 episodes so it didn't "stall" like some other series (cough AHS cough)
Don't read too much about it, you don't want to get spoilt. I love series with anti-hero protagonists, like this and Dexter. Oh and Profit (who is cool enough to have watched or even heard about that old short-lived series? Fucking lightweights, tsk tsk)
I thought it would be very hipster-y and "millenial" at the start but the show is deep and strong.
When I say social media plays a role, I mean there are a lot of social media postings (overlayed on the screen), online stalking etc. It advances the plot.
Profit was literally ahead of its time, that's why it got cancelled. Too dark and edgy for 1996.
I loved the narrating in You, it makes you see things from his perspective. Acting was also good. I haven't started S02 but it's based on the book sequel so it may be good again.
Dexter is another anti-hero show, first few seasons. And the later, darker seasons of House.
I thought 10 45-min episodes were just right for You. Every episode advanced the story and there is a "season payoff" in the end. Many twists and good dialogue ... actually smart dialogue IMO.
And *IMO* after all is said and done, if you look at it objectively and study each character, everyone is an asshole in one way or another! Regular characters, 1-episode characters, all assholes!
It's alright for a binge-watch, girlfriend made me watch through the whole thing during the winter holidays, it was "good enough" entertainment although it gets growingly predictable - it's kinda the point, but still.
It's basically a romantic comedy featuring the epitome of the "nice guy" up to the scarce thriller moments, it's pretty fun for what it is but I doubt we'll be watching season 3, season 2's ending was pretty fun but season 3 looks telegraphed :
Spoiler:
not many directions possible for it:
- either what's her name and the guy kinda invert their roles, and she becomes more murderous and crazy than him, he's her little bitch until one of the two murders the other ;
- he cheats on her with the new neighbour and it ends up badly for him, which would be karmic retribution (think it's how it's gonna go).. doubt she'll assist with his cheating, she seems like the jealous type ;
- he ends up in jail sometime in the end.
Series like this are fun for their initial premise, but shouldn't stretch for too long.

It’s not bad, but so predictable and melenial that it does drag if you’re not an 18 year old.
S2 appears to basically be S1 with a new girl and a slightly shitter and even more predictable story.
I don't want to spoil S2, but while it's kind of more of the same (the guy repeats the same patterns over and over, which is the point, I guess..), there are some nice twists and turns you wouldn't have really expected - they had to go for more improbable events in order to keep the story going.
It was sufficiently different from S1 to keep my girlfriend (and I, albeit quite reluctantly ) watching throughout.
A third season (no idea if it's in the works or not) though ? I don't really see how they can keep it interesting and fresh enough. They should leave it at S2's ending and that would be perfectly fine, imo.
Agaiiin ? We skipped season 3 after a couple episodes because of how over the top / completely implausible this is getting and I doubt it's improving
I reckon the guy will eventually get arrested by the series' end, but it's completely ludicrous how easily he managed to reset his life completely every time - someone with actual criminal connections might pull it off, but only while staying very cautious and low-profile. Too much sense of disbelief, even though I usually can ignore it.

Season 04 was so cringy so far. Acting, characters, directing, writing etc.. everything feels like it's made for 12-year olds. I can't believe Netflix is in fact making Season 05 as well.
Stil can't get my head around why Mindhunter and eg. Love were cancelled. 1000x better shows than this.
