And having him shoehorn something as pandering as making a character suddenly gay seems possible in this day and age... although WB would probably can it. Or maybe go for it if they're desperate enough
But if you want to look at it like that yes... changing a character's sexuality out of the blue just cause CAN be social justice, depending on the author. In whedon's case, for me it is

The rumors say Affleck is out of DCEU after the Batman flick, so it doesn't really matter, you are not going to see them on-screen together, unless she makes an early appearance in that film.

3 films (BvS, JL, Batman) plus a couple of cameo appearances (SS + Aquaman? perhaps, which unlike all those other DCEU films that are merely "announced" this is ramping up to shoot) is about what I expect his contract to be. Of course he could renew, but there are rumors that he wants out.
None of this is reported by the trades, which would make the rumors much closer to truth, so we shall see.
Also Hulk (and War Machine) was replaced in MCU just fine.

well hulk is a primarily cgi character (no one really cares who plays the human form), and war machine is a supporting character, so not much fuss would be made about changing those.. batman is a dc primary hero... it really seems weird that dc would have only a 3-picture deal with affleck, and only ONE of those is a solo hero film!
i really dont think its true that affleck wants out, given that this is apparently his dream role.

Dream role it might be, but was his dream to be in this specific iteration of the DC universe to film form? Or in some other theoretical iteration where the films have gotten similar critical acclaim to Nolan's Batman trilogy, or Marvel's current films?
Reynolds also really wanted to play Deadpool, but the version he got to play in Wolverine Origins.. that wasn't his dream. More like his nightmare

You know that his Batman script is being rewritten by others because he dropped from directing, right? How do you reconcile this with him wanting more creative control, especially as a writer? He's getting less this way, not more!

*shrugs* i admit i dont follow the ins and outs of the dc films all that much, since a: dc seems determined to drive them into the ground, and b: i kinda lost all hope after i heard he wasnt directing his batman film any more.
hes not directing, his script is being butchered, and his first outing was a disaster. maybe its true he wants out then.
