So, I'm not a fan of reading books. That said, I can spend hours reading articles on the net about stuff I'm researching or just general info about video games and their stories (or lack thereof).

I know I actually CAN enjoy reading, but maybe its because I haven't found the right avenue yet. I'd like to start off with some shorter stories so I don't end up needing to put it down for a period of time only to come back to it and have to backtrack to recall whats going on.

I realize this kind of defeats the purpose of most approaches to reading, but I am just looking for some additional ways to relax before falling asleep. Docs tend to say watching TV isn't always the best way to relax and have mentioned I should try reading. So I'd like to try reading Smile

Can anyone recommend some short stories in the subject line areas for me? Nothing overly complex at this point. Just wanting to get my toes wet, so to speak. Thanks!

Instead of just posting links, I'll make *some* effort Very Happy

- First, the master of sci-fi shorts: Philip K. Dick. There are many bundled versions available, so it's a bit hard to recommend a title.

Most shorts range from 2 to 5 pages. What's amazing is Dick's ability of world building and fully immersing the reader with just a few paragraphs of text. A common theme with his stories is paranoia and drug (ab)use, because he was an addict himself.

If you like his writing, I can highly recommend A Scanner Darkly, one of the few novels he wrote. To me, this is his magnum opus. Very autobiographical, very sad, very brilliant.
The movie is excellent as well, and follows to book almost to the letter.

- I, Robot (Asimov) is a collection of sci-fi short stories. Each story stands on it's own, but they share the same themes regarding (artificial) intelligence, choice and morality and some characters also return.

While the book is a bit old, it doesn't fall into the trap of explaining technologies in detail, so it doesn't feel dated as much.

- Fahrenheit 451 (Bradbury) was also written in the 1950s. The book is only about 200 pages so can be read in less than a day. It reads as if it were written 5 years ago, and seems like a prophecy of the times we are living in. Reading it in the 1950s, it was probably a thought provoking sci-fi to discuss over a beer. Reading it in 2019, it's kind of horrific when you realize we're practically living it.

- To recommend something else than sci-fi: the first Witcher book (The Last Wish) is a bundle of shorts. The final short is also the start of the saga, so if you like it, you can just continue.

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.
