The Official Japanese Twitter account for Biohazard, aka, Resident Evil has announced that a new Resident Evil game currently in development will be revealed at the Tokyo Game Show on September 10 in Japan, September 9 for the US and Europe.
The new game is codenamed ‘Project REsistence‘, and will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It is rumored to be a 4v1 multiplayer title, though no solid evidence yet supports that. Fans in attendance at TGS will be able to test it out and provide feedback, and given playtesting has been going on quite openly in Japan and the US, it doesn’t sound like the kind of approach Capcom would take with a mainline, singleplayer Resi.
In the wake of the success of the Resident Evil 2 remake, speculation has increased as to what the next project would be, with a Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake (though some fans are kind of already on that), Resident Evil 8, and even Resident Evil Revelations 3 all being contenders. Safe to say, a multiplayer title was not high on the list.

Oh well, as long as we'll still have our proper RE3make or RE8 in the future I'm not too bothered by potential couch-op spin-off thingies (which I'll just skip as per usual since I'm only into :foreveralone experiences).
I think something like a L4D, players vs player monsters, can work good for Resident Evil, no? Playing as some of the bosses from the games can be cool.
No problem whatsoever with this MP title, I'll just skip it (unless it's crazy good). I'm sure the next SP RE is also being developed.

If it has some story (a la Outbreak) it could be good, but from what I see in the trailer it likely won't have one or it will be non canon as remote controlled Tyrants aren't a thing in the RE universe.
I guess Capcom wants to get the most out of their RE2make assets.

That would be getting even more out of it, but not the most. For example RE3 does not have lickers or Mr. X, like this MP title does.

It's being made by Neobards, the Taiwanese company that: ported DMC HD Trilogy from PS360 to current gen, ported Onimusha to current gen, ported RE 0 & 1 HD to Switch.
Basically, a porting house allowed to play around with the RE2 code and assets.
Lower your expectations as much as possible.
They also confirmed it will have an offline campaign too.
