Anyone has this thing? The default game roster is laughable, it doesn't support analog sticks by default and started at a $99.99 price.
Now, it's $20.00, has been hacked to support analog sticks and almost every controller, can load any PS game but also runs RetroArch, so it is quite the potent emulation machine. And it looks cool.
I ordered one, ~$40 with shipping, which is still cool.
no, thought about it but i still have my pi3b which runs all psx games fine too. for 20 bucks its a steal though (cause its hackable, otherwise not). for 40 not that great deal tbh, but still ok.but 20 bucks for shipping to fucking israel?
The two front usb ports are power limited to 100mah. So only some usb sticks work properly... if you do a tiny bit of soldering you avoid the limiter and most usb drives will work.
They are very close, strangely I have never found straight comparisons/benchmarks using the same core and game. I think the PSC hardware is faster in most cases, of course it doesn't have any wireless connectivity. Thankfully there are adapters like the 8bitdo one.
Fuck the rpi 3, the rpi 4 looks like the next big thing, I am waiting for a model B to iron out the problems.
When you get the PSC, you should test the controllers on your PC, for me they just work, no hassle.
I see you are a Doomer, too. I have prboom working on the PSC, with the proper dual analog controls of course. With SIGIL working, too.
I think a while ago that opensource Half Life engine also was ported.
By the way, I am using Retroarch exclusively (Bleemsync hack) because there is a bit of a hassle to add games to the carousel. If you want to use the carousel then only add games with pbPSCReAlpha. Exclusively.
In RA I have gotten big romsets working great, with thumbnails and such.
You mean a tool to do that on the PC? Nahhh, there are github repositories with thumbnail packs for systems. Some repositories are deprecated, just so you know, pay attention to the dates, they reorganised them. If you find a magical tool, let a nigga know.
So you drop these into the thumbnails folder. And you drop the roms inside whichever folder you want, like E:/Roms/SNES. Each rom inside its own zip. You make sure you have an appropriate core for the system. And you scan the folder, a playlist is created. The recognised game name has to match the thumbnail filename.
The annoying thing is that you want a romset with verified roms so their hashes are recognised, so they are added to the playlist. And they should be USA if possible because if recognised as (USA, Brasil) it may not match any thumbnail.
About 95% of my roms have two thumbnails, cover and screenshot. Using the ozone menu driver, dark theme. Sandisk Ultra Flair 64gb, fast as fuck but runs hot.
Retroarch is some of the most retarded things ever. I installed on PC to test it out. Half of the time, it doesn't save settings. Escape quits without prompt. PS1 controller types keeps getting reset to "PlayStation Controller" rather than "DualShock". Menus are retarded.
It's the fucking Linux of emulation. My god, what a dreadful shit.

RetroArch is indeed a big mess. They really REALLY need to redo the entire menu system because it feels as if 50 monkeys worked on this and each did their own little thing. What you have is a dozen options which overlap or rather SHOULD overlap but lord knows how they're programmed so you end up tweaking for hours to get the settings just right because changing one setting fucks up another.
Not to mention that there's no logic at all in the menus - they should have a basic menu for the most important settings and then have an advanced option, everything neatly divided in categories. Instead, you have a huge laundry list of options which are very weirdly divided in sub categories taking absolutely ages to find a setting you want and this is further complicated because half the buttons are not well named or even misleadingly named.
Retroarch is one huge landmine but it has the best PSX emulation, the libretro core of pcsx rearmed is a bit better than the standalone version. Also, you need Retroarch for all the systems that it emulates.
Yup, RetroArch is a pain to navigate/set-up. Could be so much easier but this is what we got.
It's great when everything is working but getting there is a horrible experience.

That sums Retroarch up very accurately
works flawless for me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It's very functional and can deliver great performance from the least powerful devices, it's just a mess to be using and setting up without a proper GUI.. Aka Linux
Linux development is full of clowns with no UI/UX capacity whatsoever. "But it works" is always the retort whenever someone criticizes a bullshit UI/UX. And that is why Linux is still stuck at 0.0000% of desktop usage.
