[SOLVED]See below[/SOLVED]

Hello,

when I add or change the existing switch to external by "bridging" it with a physical device, the VM boots up and works normally.

BUT, ... the performance of the network both for the VM and the Host are on stand still.

Instead of 162Mbps down I get 3.x and there are significant latencies on webpage loads.

I cannot imagine this is standard behavior.

Even when disabling Anti-Virus (my first suspicion), still the results are identical.

Does anyone have some more experience with Hyper-V and why this is happening?

Just a general rule, non-Intel network cards work mostly fine in Windows. But in Servers, VMs, Linux, FreeBSD expect problems.

In your case, most probably the problem is with Wireless NIC. They lack features for bridging, so you are taking a performance hit.

Nice Smile Not as convenient to administer and use as VMs bridged to a physical NIC, but as long as it works... Very Happy As it's via NAT you will have to fiddle with port forwarding if you intend to use VM in a server role.

But how can you reach VMs behind a NAT from outside the host without port forwarding Confused

LAN: 192.168.0.0/24
GATEWAY IP: 192.168.0.1
HOST IP: 192.168.0.2 (DHCP / Static / Static via DHCP)

Next we crate a Virtual NAT

LAN: 192.168.100.0/24
GATEWAY IP: 192.168.100.1
HOST IP: 192.168.100.2

Host now have two IPs: 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.100.2
VMs IP range: 192.168.100.3 <-> 192.168.100.254

VMs from the host can be reached just fine. But from outside the host they can only be reached via Host LAN IP, hence the need for port forwarding.

EDIT: You managed to squeeze the post while I was typing mine Very Happy
