Akira director Katsuhiro Otomo will direct a new anime series that will be a continuation of the steampunk cult classic that made his name.
Otomo, who also created the original Akira manga, announced the news during a panel at the Anime Expo in Los Angeles. The series will be produced by Bandai Namco's Sunrise, although few other details were unveiled.
And a 4K remaster of the film is coming in Japan in April 2020

"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"

Way more likely, anyway i really hope this is not just a sequel cause the movie allrdy cut so much shit from the manga (it was still fantastic for it's time obviously) it would be way better if they just started from scratch like FMA:Brotherhood.
For me it doesn't matter. If it's a full sequel to the movie then i'll just rewatch the movie. But naturally, it's a big gamble when young Japanese brats just "nani kore?" and skip it
