Vigil: The Longest Night is a decent attempt at creating a compelling yet simpler metroidvanian setting. The game might not have a level of depth akin to Hollow Knight or other of the genre’s greats. But if you are looking to explore an intimidatingly intricate world filled with secrets and enemies, you’ll find enough of that here to justify a playthrough.
Pros:
+ Intricate level design
+ Engaging combat
+ Good progression system
+ Fantastic soundtrack
Cons:
– Convoluted storytelling
– Excessive loading screens
– The 3D elements stand out

If you like games like Salt & Sanctuary, Death Gambit and others like them, then get this game asap.
Beautiful design, nice story (a bit confusing though), memorable bosses and locations. Exploration is rewarding.

The premise is good, but the execution is all over the place because there are a lot of residual elements from when the game was supposed to have a time travelling mechanic. There's a character in act 1 that doesn't appear afterwards at all. There's no proper explanation of what happened at the transition between acts and some of the new characters make everything even more confusing.

Thanks for the heads up guys, although the whole package comes across as simplistic in terms of item variety/enemy placement and pretty cheap lore-wise this is indeed another pleasant addition to the Metroidvania-esque genre. I feared the tone would be leaning towards the animu side (one of my arch enemies) but the art-style is rather grim and immersive, then the big interconnected world and the rather satisfying exploration did the rest.
The Normal difficulty perhaps felt a tad too generous, even the final batch of bosses is perfectly manageable if you invest in daggers and have enough money to buy the 1337 golden ones from the Smithymen himself. I'd give it a ~7/10 for the effort, it doesn't reach the heights of its peers but it's respectable enough.

I played this for a few hours and I now agree with Nodrim. It is kinda boring and has empty story parts that lead to nowhere. Uninstall-delete!
