Prepare yourselves, the End has spoketh Cool Face Laughing
https://www.gtplanet.net/slightly-mad-studios-confirms-new-project-cars-title-is-in-development/

All joking aside, for all the problems that Project Cars 2 had (and still has) including the dozens of patches required to iron out some of its most supernatural bugs and the bipolar AI, it still managed to be a very good driving game in my opinion. Razz

More satisfying than the direct competition in the simcade-y department, with a more simulative handling and more options available, although there's clearly still room for improvements when it comes to fidelity/realism, balance and Career mode. Will it contain Bellboxes? Only time will tell!

Things pcars 3 needs:

* MUCH better career mode
* Licensed race types/formulas...
* ...Formula E (this would be pretty epic, especially if it was licensed)
* More in-race features (proper pitstops, safety cars...
* AI Driver editing (Name, nationality, type (aggressive, passive etc)
* Solid multiplayer
* Better 'simulation' options - proper tyre handling etc, but also allow Arcade-sim racers to play as well)

If it can do this, I think it could arguably be the best racer on the PC - I think they COULD do it if they really put some effort in... but that company is so unpredictable.. I dunno...

And Ian is a class A dick.

I think the visuals are acceptable for the game as it is... what would be good is an engine upgrade that can deliver better performance and less TERRIBLE pop-in, because that is a big problem with this game.

I'd be very happy with visuals similar to F1 TBH, they are a little dated, but they are very good performance wise. (although no VR is just ridiculous...)

From what I've gathered (not much), there is the possibility that PC3 will be a "next" nextgen title in order to make the proper jump. I imagine that further upgrades to the engine would make current consoles struggle immensely at maintaining 60fps, but who knows really Razz
It's also going to be tricky when it comes to official championships/licenses with the Codies owning the F1, Kunos owning the Blancpain GT Series and Kylotonn keeping the poor WRC hostage. Maybe we'll get the official Gymkhana Tournament with good old Ken Failed Troll

they can upgrade the engine all they want, if they cant come up with new original ways to have fun with cars, this game is doomed from the start.

flatout was fun cause it was original, a remake of a remake of the same goddamn modes stops being fun after 30 minutes ....

Bell admits that Slightly Mad Studios had bitten off “more than we can properly chew” with Project CARS 2 and they are now looking to shift the centre of attention back to a more focused and fun experience:

Ian Bell: I'll let you know that pCARS3 will be more 'focused'... More 'fun'... We went to insane lengths with variation in pCARS2 and with that comes infinite balancing issues. We've learned a lesson here and although we have no intention of reducing content, we know what we need to fix, where we made design decisions that were, let's call it, 'sub-optimal'... pCARS3 will be more of a spiritual successor to Shift, but with all of the sim goodness everyone appreciates... The key focus though is on fun and not biting off more than we can properly chew and digest.

Have a wonderful holiday season everyone. xx

It's like Nestlé complaining that a Kitkat had too many complex flavours and that they are going back to a snickers experience.

There was nothing big in it anyway? It was just a polished update for PCars 1 which was already barebones!

It definitely sounds like they're going for the more gamey Forza/GT route (again), the "it will be more fun..but don't worry it will still be a sim" compromise usually tends to be a disappointing one. Oh well, let's hope for the best!

Also, it seems Bell wants to release an in-house system called...Mad Box?
Full thread here

Edit:
Quote:
When reached for more details, Bell told Variety that the console will ship in “around three years time” and that “it will be a console as is the Xbox or Playstation.”

“It will support most major VR headsets and those upcoming and the specs will be equivalent to a ‘very fast PC 2 years from now’,” Bell wrote in an email. “We’re in early talks with manufacturers of components so we can’t say much more right now other than we have the designs specced out in detail.”

I hope not, because from modern games the Project Cars 2 is best racing game for PC. Atleast when it comes to driving model... let me put aside Asseto corsa which looks like game from 2005.

Codemasters has agreed to acquire racing simulation specialists and creators of Project CARS, Slightly Mad Studios!
Quote:
Codemasters® today announced it has agreed to acquire racing simulation specialists, Slightly Mad Studios. The agreement cements Codemasters’ position as a world-leading games developer and publisher of racing videogames and expands its portfolio to include the award-winning Project CARS, together with an unannounced Hollywood blockbuster title. Frank Sagnier will remain CEO of Codemasters Group plc which now includes Slightly Mad Studios and Ian Bell will retain his position of Founder and CEO of Slightly Mad Studios. Codemasters now employs c.700 people globally with offices including London, Birmingham, Southam and Runcorn.

Both companies share a rich history of creating AAA racing games. Codemasters has been a UK leader for over 30 years and is the creator of the critically acclaimed intellectual properties including DiRT®, GRID® and the BAFTA-winning official FORMULA 1® Series. Slightly Mad Studios has been established for 10 years and is the proud developer and owner of the Project CARS franchise which has generated both critical and commercial success. Slightly Mad Studios has also delivered high-quality racing simulations alongside its own IP including two Need for Speed titles on behalf of Electronic Arts.

The UK publisher will pay $30 million (£23.3 million) upfront -- $25 million in cash, and $5 million in stock -- but an earnout clause based on Slightly Mad's EBITDA over a three-year period that could take the value higher.

A spokesperson briefed GamesIndustry.biz that the maximum earnout is $166 million (£128.9 million), but the financial analyst Liberum expects the actual amount to be approximately £52.6 million ($67.9 million).

“Codemasters' acquisition of SMS will create a global leader in the racing genre," said Codemasters CEO Frank Sagnier. "Their focus on AAA quality and the passion that they put into everything they create mirrors our own. Both companies have a number of world renowned, successful franchises along with exciting product development pipelines, supported by leading IP and some of the best talent in the gaming industry

...

Codemasters also noted that Slightly Mad has three projects in development:
  • a new mobile game, Project CARS Go
  • a game based on "a Hollywood blockbuster movie franchise," which is rumoured to be based on the Fast & Furious series
  • a third title based on Slightly Mad's own IP.

The $5 million in stock will be payable to Slightly Mad Studios when it launches the game based on a blockbuster movie franchise in the next financial year.

Codemasters will raise £20 million to help finance the deal through a new share placing, at a price of £2.10 per share. However, it expects its earnings per share to rise 30% as a result of the acquisition in the first full year of ownership.
