The news just gets better and better this week as earlier today we were told Monolith Productions bloody gory and hellish first person shooter of ' Blood ', will be coming to the PC via GOG and Steam as a remaster by Nightdive Studios, and published by Atari. If that wasn't enough to get you excited, the lead engine creator Samuel Villareal who is working with Nightdive Studios, has worked on previous great games including Turok and even Turok 2!
Nightdive are masters of doing this. I wonder if they will manage to get NOLF eventually, because this and System Shock were also thought impossible at some point.

Hmmm... that came out harsher than intended. But plz men, unless it's a pricing error or a massive discount or something like that, stop pre-hurrdurring

Looks nice. Not sure I'm too thrilled about revisiting 2D-sprites rotating as you move as opposed to 3D-objects, something that we've been free from for two decades.

Blood has voxel support. The source port called BloodGDX has extra voxelised items included, even subtle stuff like switches on walls. Rotating guns are boner-inducing. This isn't like Doom where there are a lot of sprites, even decorations, like big pillars.
There is now another source port released in the duke4 forum, haven't tried it but it should be good. And now Kaiser's port is coming, too
Monolith are shit since they were bought by Warner Bros. The last great game they made was F.E.A.R. and that's because development started before the acquisition.
So, anyone knows what will the remaster contain?
If it's just that "it will work on modern systems" then it's basically just a cashgrab, nothing more.
It's being made by the same guy that has ported Turok, Turok 2, System Shock, Forsaken, Doom 64, and PowerSlave to his own modern engine.
Far from a low quality effort, but if you are looking for brand new effects and assets you'll be disappointed.

If you see zero purpose for this oh well, but for many fans of the game it is very exciting.

yeah, I'm fan of the game, but fail to see what's the point/excitement?
What feature does it have that other editions don't?
I'm really interested, because so far the only thing I know is that a more "experienced" studio is doing the remake, and based on the screenshot it has 0 difference.
Hell, my Blood remaster is coming too then, in may.
(And don't take my words as an offense towards you, thats not my point, im just curious, and want to be excited as others.)
DosBox, as in the version currently sold, is not a good version at all and that's the reason people have been asking for the source code for years instead of saying "just play it in DosBox".
We got 2 source ports recently (the second of them literally released last month for the first time) and that's great.
It is assumed Night Dive Studios has access to the source code, so there are many possibilities for the port to be better than gdx.

Like I said, he will make it moddable and scriptable. And I hope he will release mapping tools for it.
The other source ports are based on Build code and you need to use the original mapedit.exe from Blood, which is a DOS program. Yes, you heard that right, you have to run the map editor in Dosbox.
BloodGDX has frame pacing issues and semi-working RoR effects. Also the multiplayer desyncs and the whole project is based on reverse-engineering and technically is not legal. And it is demo-compatible with the original so it has inherited a ton of bugs. Don't know about NBlood. But people need to understand that BloodGDX was far from perfect until some time ago and NBlood wasn't even a thing. Just because we got 2 good source ports in the span of a couple of years doesn't mean this new port is superfluous.
