I have driver's license for like 6 years now but this is my first car. It's Ford Focus from 2001. 1.6 petrol. it is a sedan version with ghia(rich) stock.
I've paid 1200euro for it yesterday. It's not a bad price for this car here but certainly considered rather large money here. Although not really much for a car all things considered.
...I really like the car. Interior is very good, comfortable. ofc windshields, mirrors, seats are all electric and work. Interior is overall in a great shape and taken care of. it somehow feels a bit premium.
Engine seems also in good shape. The car runs steadily as far as I can say, it's also responsive and so on. no complains here. Same with suspensions and brakes. Surprisingly its all good.
I have only one real complaint with it. RUST. Above the left front wheel, whole panel have to be changed. some corners of the doors are starting to rot and same with tresholds to a point.
You can see the worst offender in the first pic above the left front wheel(enlarge the pic). Thankfully my mate can do it almost for free... or I could just buy a new element. its not that expensive.
Spoiler:
But considering it all, I was expecting this. After all its 13yo car and it could have been much worse.
I will get it looked at by expert. he needs to diagnose the car engine to see if anything major there needs repairs and take care of all the metalwork.... I am not sure if tresholds need metalwork or not. They are getting rusty but expert will have to tell if this needs to be worked on
but fucking finally I have a car

Not a bad price for that car (I'm personally not a fan of how Ford hook up that engine though, makes it feel very lazy haha ). Nice one KC!
However, get it checked ASAP. That car's at the very least been driven into an immovable object (), if not hit by another car. A thirteen year old car shouldn't be exhibiting major spots of rust these days, not with all the shit they spray on them. That spot on the left front wing is the result of damage; also note the bottom of the arch, where it meets the door. Looks like damage again to me (hard to tell from this image ). Rear left on the bumper? Damage. Looks like the previous owner scraped the pavement there, maybe hit a speed bump too hard. Unless that's some really nasty dirt (on the pic it looks like the bumper is slightly out of frame though, which is why it looks like damage to me)
It's all cosmetic and nothing really serious, but still get it checked ASAP to make sure the frame is in good condition in case it was hit.
Don't get me wrong, after more than a decade most cars will have some spots of rust and with most models someone who knows the model can tell you exactly where you'll find it without even looking at the car (just like they can tell you exactly what to look for).
But a big spot like that on the front left wing of KC's? No, that's definitely not a normal rust spot unless Ford fucked something up with this model
There's always one other possible cause though, but that kind of boils down to pretty terrible maintenance again. It might be due to road salt. But that is easy to fix by simply hosing the car down weekly. No need to wash it completely, just hose it down.
Take my 206 for example, which was 12 years old when I got rid of it. Every 206 will have a bit of rust under the rear window, somewhere in the area +- 15 cm left and right of the wipers, where the glass transitions into metal - only bit of rust on my entire car. That's due to the sealant Peugeot used. Usually that spot is no bigger than a cm. The only other spot you'll find some is on 4-door (or 5-door in Dutch ) versions, where the left rear door meets the rear wing.
There's more things like that which every model of every brand has. I.e. the 206's hatch is never straight; it'll always "lean" a little left or right. It's also a French car, so the electronics can be a bit wonky; fortunately Peugeot's wiring is some of the easiest I've ever seen. The reverse gear can be hard to get into in an older one. The retainer on the bottom for the exhaust system about ~90cm from the front of the car gets loose over time.
1200€? I wouldn't be suprise if it's made out of putty.

Pretty good for the money, considering you could have gotten a piece of junk. It's my belief that the first car should always be something that takes you from A to B, so that there is enough room for any mistakes you do as a rookie driver, and there will be plenty. Only problem that could arise would be regarding spare parts, although I am not sure how Ford handles these things. I had nothing but Peugeot until now and had no issues with spare parts. My first car was a 206 manufactured in...2003? I think, although I am not sure.
Good luck and drive safe!

It's always a good idea to get a cheap first car.
Your mistakes will be repaired cheaply, and when you total it it won't be a big loss
Also you will learn what something sounds before it breaks, and how to repair it or fix it

Nice car, the handling should be pretty decent for it's size and style. If I remember well the gearbox is also pretty good, and it's quite comfortable.

Yeah it controls a little "sportsy" ?, I might say?
Gearbox works great and the driving itself is really good + brakes are new so it stops in place if I want
Just need to take care of all the rust (its a bit messy) and typical under the mask stuff.

Still younger than mine! (15 years and counting). Congrats KC, that beast will change your life for the better . Looks very comfy too, if you know what I mean

Just take good care of the engine (regular oil + filters change, spark plugs, check for strange noises), change the brake fluid (this one is mandatory for when you get a "new used" car, people often go for years without a change and it can be dangerous), maybe radiator fluid too...
Other than basic maintenance I wouldn't worry too much, it's a reliable car and I'm guessing you won't drive it like Robert Kubica so the demands are low.
About the rust, unless you can get if fixed really cheap don't even bother, just spray some anti-rust thing (forgot the name)
Thankfully friends are wise enough to not let me take it when going out for a beer, because it's never one beer
Well it's good you agree to leave it! I'm just pissed off at some guys that know very well for example that our colleague has a birthday or we celebrate a completed project after work but they still come with their cars and sit there sipping juice while everybody is happy and shitfaced.
