Ooh, microsoft pulling out the big guns to try and ruin the PS3 launch. I suppose it's effectiveness will all depend on the quality of Halo 3.

We shall see. A console is only as good as it's games, so in actuality the games are more important then the console. A game can therefore most certainly compete with a console launch.
It depends on what PS3 games are released at launch, whether this will have a major impact or not. Don't underestimate the popularity of Halo.

Considering how great the graphics of Halo 2 were, I can't wait to see what they pull off with halo 3.

no i was laughing at the fact that 99% of the ppl who buy halo3 on launch will not buy it because of the quality  there are too many fan boys for it to not sell millions regardless of how good it is / isn't. i'm not sayin halo isnt good but its way over rated

Both systems look like they're going to be great, xbox 360 has the advantage of being the first to ship, ps3 has the advantage of being a little more advanced ... in the end it comes down to the games, and the retarded masses who buy bad games... we'll see what happens, stop blindly predicting stupid shit like an ignorant asshole.

The whole Gta Next has to be the ace up the sleeve . one game can make a big difference and that just happens to be it imo . Halo3 has its followers . but i can't see it overshadowing the mighty GTA :s

i m not gonna lower myself to the same level as you,
but just take a look at the line ups of ps3 and xbox360,
then take a look at the hardware and its easy to see who s leading atm.
yea xbox360 has the advantage of shipping first, and thats the only one so far,
with gta, mgs, tekken, dmc, gran turismo announced for ps3 and gta even being a launch title i dont see how xbox360 can put up a fight in the beginning.

but anyways, back to the real argument
I'm not a console junkie, I never brought an xbox or a ps2, so I'm a neutral party here, I've tried games on each system, so I do have background experience in both...
Personally, I'll agree, I think the PS3 will be a stronger system, it's obviously technically ahead of the xbox 360, the blu ray alone would be enough to tip me ... anyways... However, the masses do not think rationally or intelligently, so the tech specs of both systems is a moot point in this argument. Launching early will provide a *huge* benefit for the xbox 360, i mean look at the situation now, the ps2 isnt ahead because of advanced tech, the xbox is way ahead of it... but it launched late... anyways... we'll see what happens... personlly i'm going to grab an xbox when it comes out, and if it's great ill keep it, if not ill sell it and buy a ps3 when that comes out  good day...

How?... with some original titles like Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Ninety-Nine Nights and Gears of War just to name a few and not only sequels like Halo3, PGR3 and DOA4.
Those PS3 games you listed, they sure look great, but they're all sequels.
I wanna see something fresh and original, not just old stuff with upgraded graphics.

I dont think it's fair to compare game titles yet. The ps3 is not out for atleast 12months, that gives it plenty of room to announce new titles.
The xbox360 is out in like 6months, that's nothing, so of course they will have more original games announced.
But still, the games Martinius posted are all fresh so there are quite a few already on the ps3.
