A world divided into progress and devastation. The link between the two sides - Offshore and Inland - is a rigorous and painstaking system called The Process. Everyone in Inland has a chance to go through The Process to live a better life in Offshore. But only 3% make it through.
3% is the first Brazilian original series of Netflix. The Process begins on November 25.
Eh, looks like a no budget thing. Will wait to read some impressions probably.

Brazilians should stick to writing great drama and comedy like they've been doing for a long time now until they have the proper founding to make sci-fi, the sfx in that trailer look horrendous.
Tis out on Netflix. Mini impressions pls because it doesn't look that hot.

PS Why the fuck have they released a dubbed version?
I keep hearing that Americans don't like to read subtitles, I guess that is why. No clue if it is true though... the Americans I know don't seem to have a problem with it.
To the show itself... meh, looks too mediocre for me to give it a go. The idea while unoriginal is still interesting but I'm not feeling like adding another mediocre show to the stuff I'm watching.
3% wants to be a story about privilege and the groups rendered voiceless in a capitalist, patriarchal society. But it's weighed down by its devotion to a genre that often places cold visuals and nonsensical world-building over anything else. Based on the first three episodes, it's neither as interesting nor as progressive as it seemingly hopes to be. It does, however, have a character whose sole personality trait is her use of an e-cigarette. Which has got to be a first.
The original pilot episodes they filmed to attract a network back in 2011! I'll watch those first (they're less than 30 minutes total). In the Netflix proper, the creator and all 3 directors remained (and they added César Charlone to the list), 2 of the 3 writers remained (and they added another 3), but the cast is new.

Watched the pilot + all episodes. The series is the same concept as the pilot (but with more flavor) and several scenes and characters have been transferred to the series. There's something as deep as in the end of episode 4 that hails from the pilot. Very interesting, it seems they might have had planned everything (or a very big chunk) in advance.
Now what did I think about it:
First 4 episodes were rather good.
Next 2 less so.
Final 2, mmhm.. not what I expected.
Ultimately, there's no big twist regarding the Offshore and the Process (there is a revelation regarding the Offshore, but big twist? Nope.). Indeed we learn very little about it, but it seems that's what the next season will be about.
What's really interesting is by the end of the series the characters have ended up in completely unexpected places from what you might had been thinking in the early episodes. Now, perhaps I don't agree with what they did with all of them, but it made me very curious to see what they do with them in season 2.
The writing generally was alright. Of course there are the random conflicts and drama and fights and deaths, but eh, seeings young adults kill each other has become a genre staple. A plot element I disliked is
Spoiler:
how so many could fool the system and forge their way into the Process. That makes me seriously question the IQ or tech capabilities of the Offshore dudes.
The characters were ok, some better than others. The supposed protagonist (who by the final episode had barely any lines) wasn't one of the strongest.
The acting was fine.
The low production values didn't seem so bad in the actual episodes. You forget about the cheapness pretty quickly. Sure, the production might not have had the budget to create shiny sets, but at least all the sets were real, instead of green screen composited garbage. So the show might look plain, but at least it looks real. I read the estimated budget is R$ 10M, that's like $3M. I don't know how are the wages and such in Brazil, but many US shows have a higher budget for just a single episode - not 8 of them! Keeping that in mind, I think they did fine, although Season 2 will probably have to take place not just in closed sets since we are past the testing phase, so I think an increased budget will be a necessity.
I thought the music was unmemorable.
7.5/10 - Good effort, nice to see Netflix funding a non-US production, here's hoping for a better next season.

I'm still struggling to get through some episodes I got left.. Imho it's a pretty uneven show..the story is not particularly interesting imho..Sometimes it gets boring..They should have turned this into Battle Royale The Series or made it more dramatic, with a darker setting and better writing.....The acting is hit and miss which doesn't help either
i finished this now and it was ok, the premise was definitely interesting; first half is good and more intense, towards the end they kinda slowed it; i would lol if that island would be some sort of labor camp and all the "children" some slaves
ps damn brazilian women are beautiful
Watched this in the past weeks, overall it was decent; interesting til the end, after season 2 gets chaotic, s3 is boring while 4 more entertaining. They lost a lot after Ezequel dies, that dude was really good. Also, they shoved in lesbian love, shemales and black gays
ps that thicc Natalia
