|
 |
At work, we each have our own mailbox as well as several shared ones for incoming orders and a general "info" address. Right now we use Thunderbird but slowly but surely, Thunderbird is starting to get sluggish, bloated and uncomfortable to use.
In total I personally have 98GB of emails. We get sent a lot of PDF files from customers which we cannot delete for X amounts of years due to the nature of the business (we print labels for the food industry). In the past I spent several days a year clearing out our mail boxes to trim it down but frankly, this is now a lost battle.
The problem with Thunderbird, is that it becomes seriously slow when you got this many emails. It keeps compressing folders which slows down the entire PC but if we don't compress, it takes up even more space! Why it doesn't do this at fixed times (like after midnight) is beyond me. Frankly, I've had it with Thunderbird - it hasn't been properly updated in many years but I also can't quite find a good alternative.
So my question is: for this many emails, which client would you recommend for a business? It's important the client has a solid search function, however.

Until you find a solution, consider setting up a shared cloud space/FTP/whatever and sending links only. It's also easier to backup compared to mail server (if you are using your own mail server).

We use Dropbox Pro but soooo many customers still like to send files attached. The files we send out are without attachments but the ones we receive ... . For now, I'll make a full backup of all mails on our NAS and just clean the folders, let Thunderbird until store files of the past few months to keep lag to a minimum.

I'm all ears for an alternative to Thunderbird.
Everytime I open it, It feels like 2005.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Yes, sadly there's no decent application, I've tried them all a few months ago, nothing works well.
PC: Yes. Console: No.

Because masses are using either their mobile devices, webmail or MS Outlooks. Outlook can be ok if you modify it for your needs. Personally I'm totally fine with it's web client. (Exchange Online subscription)

I used em Client until a week ago or so since my ISP e-mail didn't work (some update to em Client) and had to change to Thunderbird to get my e-mail working again.

I don't use tabs that much but when I use them, I really need them - like when I'm investigating a complaint and have to keep several mails within reach. Seems weird they wouldn't support such a rather basic feature. Like a browser without tabs ... .
Seriously, the trend seems to be to dumb down software. Even Windows 10 seems so dumb in many areas - the more advanced stuff deeply hidden and basic stuff taking way more steps to do simply because it's more "user friendly" (read: big ass icons leading to big ass settings with pretty buttons).
