There’s been rumors but now it’s official – Patrick Stewart is reprising his role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in a new “Star Trek” series for CBS All Access.

The actor tweeted out the news which indicates the new show won’t be a reboot or a direct continuation of “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” rather a spin-off which will tell the next chapter of Picard’s life. Stewart says in a post:

Quote:
“It is an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions within him. During these past years, it has been humbling to hear stories about how ‘The Next Generation’ brought people comfort, saw them through difficult periods in their lives or how the example of Jean-Luc inspired so many to follow in his footsteps, pursuing science, exploration, and leadership. I feel I’m ready to return to him for the same reason — to research and experience what comforting and reforming light he might shine on these often very dark times.”

“Star Trek: Discovery” executive producer Alex Kurtzman will be involved in the new series and says: “With overwhelming joy, it’s a privilege to welcome Sir Patrick Stewart back to the ‘Star Trek’ fold. For over 20 years, fans have hoped for the return of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and that day is finally here. We can’t wait to forge new ground, surprise people, and honor generations both new and old.”

With the success of shows like American Horror Story and other anthology series in recent years I always thought a Star Trek anthology series could be good as there are so many stories they could easily tell and jump around season to season. I had always hoped if Picard returned it would be in a Mirror Universe limited series as it could be fun to see that timeline of characters (TNG, DS9, Voyager) 20 years later in the Mirror Universe.

In the new series, Picard realizes that he was a racist towards the Borg because, clearly, they are just trying to survive as well. It was wrong not to let the Borg come into our society and assimilate us. So he embarks on a mission to spread awareness for the poor misunderstood Northern Afri... sorry, Borg, and blocks everyone from hailing the Enterprise if they have anything negative to say about the Borg. His Planetareon fund is not doing too well, though, but that's because the Federation is a bunch of Nazis. Of course, half his crew is now Borg too, including "5 out of 7", the new star of the show. Oh and Riker is now a pansexual robot fucker. He and Data are an item now. (yes they stole that from Solo).

Expectations will be crushed.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

There are expectations? After Discovery? With this being made by the same showrunners?

She's such a good sport about this. Especially since watching Stewart knitting a sweater, would be loads more interesting than that STD abomination

Characters were decent.
Story archs were ok.
It wasnt star trek but it was a decently budgeted sci fi set in space.

Characters were obnoxious and unlikeable.
Story was meh and very plausible for deus ex machina plot twist.
It had big budget so it could blanket above things with flashy explosions and cgi.

They already did that in the books, search for the Star Trek: Destiny trilogy.
