New Doom movie looks like Doom and the other Doom movie
Quote:
Bulgaria is apparently the new home to Hell, as Universal Studios has just wrapped shooting there for a new Doom movie. Is it a sequel to the Doom movie that they made in 2005? Is it a redo of the game’s story? If so, which of the many Dooms is it? Is it perchance based on the series of novel in 90s where the Mormons save Earth? It almost certainly is not! But from the first few set photos, we can tell that it looks like coordinators in a space place full of blood and, like, what else are you going to have in a Doom movie? That really covers the bases, production wise.
There was no real announcement for the new film. Rather, actress Nina Bergman had a social media post which leaked the information back in April. Director Tony Giglio is helming the picture, and he’s been sharing some shots from the location as well as videos of the actors practicing stunts.
Not many details here as far as what’s being adapted, but I would like to be the first to say that VEGA and his dumb sword have no place here. There. That’s my smart opinion on movie-making. Take it or leave it, Hollywood!
Directly from the director’s tweet-place, here is our first look at what we assume is the UAC facility.
Uh. Also: guns. Remember how there were guns in the game? They’re in the movie, buddy. And I have proof:
Much more exciting to me is this shot of star Amy Manson, where she points out there’s no need for a DoomGuy when you’ve got a DoomGirl.
Oh. This… this is pretty neat. Dr. Betruger is played by actor Dominic Mafham, who apparently is in Backdraft 2? Did you guys know they’re shooting a sequel to Backdraft? Okay, I’ll explore that on my own time.
Hopefully, the new film has as great dialogue on par with this back and forth between The Rock and the official Doom twitter account:
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production arm of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, has once again opened a portal to Hell with Doom: Annihilation, a brand new, direct-to-video adaptation of the Doom video game franchise. Described as an "intense action-packed" all-new installment, the movie will be released in Fall 2019. Bloody Disgusting has the exclusive world trailer premiere for Annihilation, which carries shades of James Cameron's Aliens and looks like a damn good time. Will we see the return of the BFG?
The sequel follows a group of space marines as they respond to a distress call from a base on a Martian moon, only to discover it’s been overrun by demonic creatures who threaten to create Hell on Earth.
Doom: Annihilation was written and directed by Tony Giglio (S.W.A.T.: Under Siege), and stars Amy Manson (”Atlantis”), Dominic Mafham (Ophelia), Luke Allen-Gale (“Dominion”) and Nina Bergman (The Car: Road to Revenge).
Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (Bumblebee) and John Wells (“Animal Kingdom”) executive produced, with producers including Jeffery Beach (Jarhead 3: The Siege), Phillip Roth (Death Race: 4 Beyond Anarchy) and Ogden Gavanski (Cult of Chucky).
I need to play a little Doom right now to get this shit out of my head.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
It's one of those IP's that seems like it would be easy to make a decent action film with but instead it's destined for complete dross. File alongside Resident Evil,.
Haha it has the perfect B-movie look, including squeaky clean walls made from cardboard and freshly painted, the signature camera angles etc
It's even in 1.77:1, straight for the TV

For me RE had a decent action film. Or two maybe. If you squint.
Depends on your definition of decent of course. For me decent = 6/10.

It's VoD. And it looks like something from Asylum but with better vfx.

Two of the producers, Jeffery Beach (Jarhead 3: The Siege) and Phillip Roth (Death Race: 4 Beyond Anarchy) are ones that would make those SyFy channel knockoff movies as I worked with them on my first feature like 20 years ago now when they used to film in the USA but they started filming in Bulgaria and those countries shortly after that movie I did because I guess it brought production costs way down so it was more money in their pockets. The production design seems to be about the same as it was back then as their big thing was doing in house special effects for their own films and they would sell well internationally.
