I started playing on the 1st of April when all the player characters were turned into chickens. Made me lose the will to play the game.
A few mates of mine are playing it sometimes so I will have to try to get in when they are up for it.
Hear a lot of nifty things about the game, but that is it.

I also saw it in that list and was wondering what it is, but the homepage was just weird.
That the latest news update is from April 1st kinda scared me off.
Anyone care to explain what the hell this game is even about? What's the goal?
Do you just run around and build your own house somewhere?
Is it like first person ultima online? Or first person dwarf fortress?

Yeah, it's simiilar to DF in terms of graphics (none of them has anything worth mention) and long term enjoyment.
It's pretty much a fantasy life simulator. You're thrown out into the big-bad-world and it's up to you how you survive from there.
The PVP is FFA, so anyone can kill you anywhere, loot your stuff, pilage your place, etc. At least on the wilderness server, the starting island (where everyone starts, regardless which server they chose) is more restricted and you'll be able to leave once you buy a premium account.
The size of the islands are pretty big, the free one being much-much-much smaller than the premium ones.
This game is only advisable to those who enjoy DF. Others will be put off by the horrible graphics and almost complete lack of animations (almost no atcion is animated, only a few, even animals just slide along the terrain, motionless). Those who do look beyond it, will find a reough gem of gaming.

You don't need to click on the tree, you need to click on the zone the tree is in.

There is a free section where you are stuck on a big island (nowhere near as big as the premium ones though), can only train skill up to level 20, and there is no real economy to speak of.
If you buy premium time, you can access one of the other two servers (one FFA PVP, the other is no-PVP (I don't know about duels there though), which are pretty damn huge, you can train skills all the way to 100 (or even further, can't remember), create player towns, etc.

100% sure there are bows, but can't say the same for crossbows. IIRC there are no gunpowder weapons.

If you just dart out in a random direction, you'll run accross huge forests sooner than later.
In fact, when you get around to build your own place, you'll spend quite some time clearing all the trees to make room for the buldings (but they make planks so it balances out).

There is no mistery about what this game is. It's exactly what it looks like. A fantasy survival game.
You can get cotton by botanizing all over the place and hoping you get cotton seeds. After that, it's just a matter of finding a good spot, planting it, taking care of it for a few days (maybe just one, can't remember) and when it's ripe, harvest it. Then take the seeds out of the buds (destroys the bud), start all over again, and when you have a steady surplus, you can stop ruining the buds and roll some of them into thread (still saving a few for future farming).
This will level your farming as well, which will allow you to plant better plants, like vegetables, great ingredients to make food with.
Foraging is a good way to stay alive in the beggining, but you'll start eating decent food soon enough.
And yeah. When I was playing, I had the privilige of playing with a few other ppl. We put a pretty nice place together, complete with farms, a livestock area (with a few pigs), storage buildings, workshops, stable for horses, and a full flegded mine that supplied the iron. We even dug through a whole mountain, just to find water and a good fishing spot.

Can I skin other players and make a dead skin mask, then howl at the moon?

Is there any point in playing this?
Seems to me (after reading the wiki a bit) there's not much to do aside from cutting trees, mining iron, and making walls and nails, then building your house. Or am I wrong?
It's a nice concept but it should be expanded to nicer/larger houses and different buildings. (Apparently you can make a stone house later, and that's as far as it goes)
