Instead of the power adapter I ordered there were two i7 7700k in my package. Originally I didn't plan to upgrade anytime soon, but why not?! My brother is also looking for a new computer. I'm not sure yet, which way I want to go:
- Use both of them
- Use one for myself, sell the other - buy something "cheaper" for my brother
- Use one for myself, sell the other - sell my current PC to my brother

but that's not what I need help with. I did a little research on boards and I guess I should be fine with a Gigabyte GA-H270-HD3 for example.

I don't plan to overclock , no SLI or anything special. Maybe you have recommendations or something which I shouldn't buy at all.

And then there is the question about RAM. I have no idea at all how much of an impact it has these days. Fastest available seems to be to expensive with too little gain?! Last time I just bought what most other customers bought with the board of my choice Rolling Eyes

Thankful for any input Smile

Probably fired some time ago. Seller is from China and my guess is that they mixed up the box. Although the box has the sellers name on it and doesn't even sell CPUs (at least under that name).

if you dont plan to oc get a h270 board yes, and 2400mhz ram. you cant oc the ram without a z board. so if you go for a z board in case you might oc it in the future (which would be the best solution cause the boards arent much more expensive than h boards) get 3000mhz ram. 3200 works mostly too, but sometimes not where 3000 is a 99% working thing

From China you say? Are you -SURE- they're legit 7700k processors and not fakes?

Yep, you've already plugged them to a MB and checked this, right?

Thank you Janz.

They are still in that plastic protection thingy. At the moment I don't have any board available to test them. They don't look fake, at least I can't spot any difference. If they should be fake, that will be my problem then.
For now stay on topic, thanks Smile

just check the serial numbers of the units on the intel website

you need fpo and atpo for that (and those are most likely tray units but it should be still say if its a valid cpu or not). fpo is the last line printed on the headspreader. atpo is on the plastic stuff itself printed on the lower left site or the bottom site (next to the visual id)

Probably just some some crappy Celeron CPU with the heatspreader of the 7700k.

LOL Okay
