I am currently on jury service in the UK, it's my first time, and I have to say what a bloody shambles the court system is!

After the first day, you are told to arrive at 10:15, yes 10:15! For most people that is half way through the working day. Sit about for ages and eventually get called onto a trial.

So far I have been on two trials, one has been decided, the other we are still seeing the evidence and witnesses etc.

From 10:15 until close at 16:30, we have probably sat in the courtroom for a max of 2 to 3 hours, it's a bloody joke! We could have wrapped our current case up over two days, but now it looks like it is going to go into next week. All because they take so many breaks and have no idea how the real world works with regards to working hours.

So anyone else in the UK carried out this 'civic duty' and got as pissed off with it as I am? Is it the same in other parts of Europe?

I got called up once, I sent it back with reasons I couldn't do it (masturbating that day etc)

Glad I did now

We don't have juries in our judicial system over here.
But it doesn't surprise me that you feel that they are wasting your time.

How on earth do you decide if a defendant is guilty or innocent? I assumed most civilised judicial systems were much the same. Apart fron the US of course where the amount of money you have decides.....

UK and US are "common law", Europe is "civil law".
