Denis Villenueve (“Sicario,” “Arrival”), David MacKenzie (“Hell or High Water,” “Starred Up”) and Yann Demange (“’71,” “White Boy Rick”) have reportedly emerged as the front runners to direct the next film in the James Bond franchise according to Deadline, while Variety says Demange is the top choice.
I would have been curious to see another actor finally taking over*, but Craig is still alright for the role, he certainly isn't the problem. Whoever takes charge, it's really necessary that he's supported by a solid writer, because bad writing was easily Mr Bond's toughest opponent in the last decade.
Skyfall almost felt like a turning point, but then it ended up being another giant missed opportunity for me, not to mention Spectre of Solace who are still sitting there in my memory among the saddest trombones.

“No decision has been made at the moment, there’s a lot of noise out there and nothing official has been confirmed and I’m not, like, holding out for more money or doing anything like that. It’s just all very personal decisions to be made at the moment… I know they’re desperate to get going and I would in theory love to do it, but there is no decision, uh, just yet.”
Appearing on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Craig was asked about it and his reticence in interviews this week to confirm or deny. Then he said: “But I felt like, if I’m going to speak the truth I should speak the truth to you.”
Then Colbert asked him straight: “Will you return as James Bond” to which he replied: “Yes” and confirmed this will be his last: “I think this is it. I just want to go out on a high note. I can’t wait.”
What I hope is that they turn him into a doctor who character or Jason Bourne and just be James Bond is a code name and show some girl training in the background (someone he worked with on the latest mission) as bond retires (off to his own execution) and says she's got the guts to be the next bond. We watch bond sit down on a chair, with a gun and watches as his Boss walks up to the girl and offers her something that makes bond bond (a lapel or some shit) bond smiles and puts a bullet in is head.
The next bond movie will start with a girl not knowing what she's supposed to do, or is thrown into a high octane action without a clue and as the movie progresses she shows she's capable of being a bond.

After much talk, Danny Boyle has now seemingly confirmed that he will direct the next James Bond film and plans to start shooting later this year for MGM and EON.
For a while now rumors have been that Boyle had come up with a great take that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson loved. His involvement though was in question due to a new film with a script by Richard Curtis which has taken priority.
Now, according to Boyle at a screening of his new FX series “Trust” this week, he’s finishing up work on the Bond script, will then do the Curtis film and then begin shooting Bond at the end of the year. He tells Metro US:
Quote:
“We are working on a script right now. And it all depends on that really. I am working on a Richard Curtis script at the moment. We hope to start shooting that in 6 or 7 weeks. Then Bond would be right at the end of the year. But we are working on them both right now.”
We’ve got an idea, John Hodge, the screenwriter, and I have got this idea, and John is writing it at the moment. And it all depends on how it turns out. It would be foolish of me to give any of it away.”
Expected to be Daniel Craig’s fifth and final outing as Bond, the movie is targeting a late 2019 release.
In a shock announcement, the official James Bond Twitter account has posted a tweet indicating Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle will no longer direct the next 007 film.
The tweet says producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli and the film’s star Daniel Craig jointly announced Boyle’s exit which is due to ‘creative differences’.
Earlier this week came the news that just a few months out from filming, director Danny Boyle had walked away from the upcoming next James Bond film due to ‘creative differences’.
Now The Telegraph has done a follow-up report going further into the issues. According to the paper, while there were some issues with the storyline involving a modern-day Cold War and a Russian villain, the big point of contention was due to Boyle’s desire to cast Polish actor Tomasz Kot as the main villain.
Kot stars in Paweł Pawlikowski’s raved about “Cold War” which has been playing the film festival circuit for much of this year. However he was reportedly viewed as too ‘left field’ a choice for the character, with star Daniel Craig apparently the one not keen on the idea – a problem as Craig plays a key role in all casting choices. That’s why Craig name was very visible on the press release earlier this week as well.
That was reportedly the last straw as longtime film series producer Barbara Broccoli was allegedly already ‘infuriated’ by Boyle’s insistence that he bring in his own team, including writing partner John Hodge, which resulted in the previous script by writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade having been shelved.
Well, shelving the previous script writers was a good thing, as they haven't written a decent one since The world is not enough (which was co-written apparently), not counting Casino Royale as the story was already there. We'll see what Bond 25 brings, but I don't expect much.
