Hi, kinda new to this idea of having a personal media server to stream stuff around my devices. Mostly planning to use UMS to play movies ( some 4k/hdr rips too since those are 80gb or so and got no usb stick to watch on TV via that solution) Few questions:

- how does it work? Does it create a server on the internet that anyone can access from anywhere? Or only devices connected to my home network? I got cable 100mb/s connected to my router out of which my pc ( which should be the media hub) is cable connected, rest of the devices wirelessly.
- does it 'upload' data to my tv? So the only thing that matters is how fast my router can upload irrelevant of my actual internet speed?
- would everything be good enough for 4k hdr ( bandwith wise)?
- can anyone outside of my network connect to my media server ( my pc)
- if they can, can they do anything else other than view media files?

Thanks

have a look at plex

and yes if your connection allows access from the outside (i.e. portforwarding. doesnt work if you connection has a shared v4 adresse, you would need a v4-v6 tunnelservice) you can access your files from anywhere you want. but would set up owncloud too if possible for data stuff and not media files

Emby can be pretty nice as an alternative too.

Ok installed plex, everything is amazing, the video quality is better than my KS8500 playback/pc playback (no idea how the fuck), my issue with some blurays having wrong hues/colors in dark scenes are gone (tested the great wall 1080p bluray which didnt look that great like i mentioned in my previous thread about this, now the movie looks like in the trailers).. i mean, it's amazing.

1 question though, how can i fix subtitles? As in, sync them , change font etc?

Thanks a ton!

Also ps: using plex app on my tv, how does it work? Does my pc upload the data to the internet then my tv downloads it to stream? Or is it done inside my own network? So my internet speed doesn't matter.
