Sorry, but it just magnifies the fact that they can't move the franchise forward so they keep re-releasing the same bullshit from the past over and over.
Developed by Forgotten Empires, Age of Empires: Definitive Edition will highlight the original classic at its best, exclusively for Windows 10 and available for purchase from the Windows Store.
We’ve chosen to release “Age of Empires: Definitive Edition” exclusively in the Windows Store and we’re excited about what that entails, including tons of Xbox Live goodness (achievements, cloud saves, multiplayer on the fastest, more reliable gaming network and more).

And Sega can't do a frigging Jet Set Radio Future Remastered after 15 years of it's launch.. *Sigh*
Back on topic. Glad they did a REMAKE of this. SAdly W10 only sooooo waiting for a Steam+W7 like they did with QUANTUM BREAK

Yea, but that's different. You're comparing apples to oranges. Windows Store is linked with Xbox Live this time around.
The only shitty part as far as I know, if you buy games that are multiplatform (ie, sold on steam too), I think the MP portions may not be compatible *I could be wrong here* I remember there used to be a case with that.
However, Microsoft games on that platform should be alright.
I mean shit, we already have Origin for EA games, uplay for Ubi games, steam/gog for rest, and Microsoft Store for MS games.

Worthless bullshit.

Because Age of Empires 2 re-release was so great lol
What's wrong with win10 store though? Legit question.
Only game from there that I have is forza horizons 3 and have had no issues with it.
It's behind other platforms when it comes to basic features, and various strange issues often pop up.
Example: it took them a very long time to add the ability to install games on a different partition than C. But even with that option now available, it doesn't allow me to install an "app" on a different partition if that partition has a separate installation of Windows on it. I have 2 installations of Windows 10 (one used for testing purposes) and this limits where I can install Apps. Obviously no such issues with other platforms. It also doesn't allow the user to limit the bandwidth used, it annoys me when companies don't add this (such as EA and Origin). The interface isn't very good to use either.
I've used the Store for Tomb Raider. Whenever I wanted to play, it needed to automatically log me in the "xbox" app. For months I was unable to play because the Xbox/Store app was bugged out and would give me a fail error when trying to "synchronize" my account. Then on two separate occasions I lost my save games and I'm not entirely clear why. One time they completely disappeared, the second time they seemed to be rolled back to an earlier state. I just stopped playing the game. I would have had a much simpler experience with just about any other Client.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

I'm actually impressed - the graphics look exactly what they should be: very high quality and smooth 2D. I never played the first that much - I wonder if it still holds up since AoE2 pretty much superseded it in every way. Part of me wishes they'd have done this with AoE2 instead because the re-release was quite weak.

From what i get they not only redid the graphics, but also tweaked the menus, gameplay and also the campaigns to some extend.

To that end, rather than a final release of Age of Empires: Definitive Edition on October 19, we will instead be inviting thousands more players from the community into our closed beta between now and launch to allow for more in-depth testing across single player campaign, multiplayer balance, fine-tuning the lobby, etc.
We don’t have a final release date to share quite yet, but are targeting early 2018. In the meantime, we will be actively engaging with everyone participating in the closed beta to gather additional feedback, set up multiplayer sessions, and ensure that the Age of Empires: Definitive Edition that we are delivering is the Definitive Edition that you want.

Quote:
And now I’m happy to announce that Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is launching on February 20 worldwide for Windows 10 PCs at $19.99 USD.
For this Definitive Edition, we’ve made improvements like:
- Completely rebuilding assets for a modern 4K presentation
- Letting you play online with Xbox LIVE (in addition to LAN play)
- Re-recorded the original soundtrack with a new orchestral score
- Adding campaign narration for every mission
- Enhancing the campaign and scenario editor, which allows anyone to make original custom campaigns for the game, by letting players easily share them with other players around the world via AgeOfEmpires.com
