Everything I thought about PC gaming boils down to big egos and big price!! I have an i7 7700k, GTX 970, 16 GB memory, Win 10 Pro...Plays all games great!

Now the kicker-AMD 6350 FX, GTX 750Ti 2Gb, 8GB Memory, Win 10 Pro...All "AAA" games play great...DOOM, Battlefield 1, Fallout 4, anything I throw at it plays them all fine. I don't go crazy and put settings on ULTRA but HIGH always runs smooth...

Bottom line, ego verus $$$ ....it isn't as it seems!!

What has ego to do with anything? If someone has the money and gaming is their hobby, what's wrong with investing in their hobby for something that gives them subjectively more joy?

Good for you otherwise.

Rolling Eyes

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

You buy what Your money allows. There is no need for 1080ti but if it's not a big deal on Your wallet it's fine.

here I have 1060 and it works wonders... even thoguh I think cards like this should be twice less expensive

1080ti is needed if you own higher resolution monitor than ancient 1080p.

True but you don't buy 4k monitor without budget and mind set on buying 1080ti.

For me at least 1080p is fine at 23 inches. huge resolutions are not that important. just make anti aliasing great.

But monitors bigger than 23 would be super annoying looking up close with no good aa method. So high res is a solution. I would certainly not buy 27+ inch panel if it was only 1080p. But fuck that. 23 and 1080p is fine for me. Just give me oled hdr panel at that res and size. I much would prefer that rather than stupidly high resolutions.

If you buy mid to top-of-the-line h/w that will generally have far greater mileage and be more relevant to changes in s/w then lower end/cheaper h/w which you will quite likely need to change out/refresh quicker as the s/w being developed always seems to require greater speeds to drive it due to bloat/un-optimizations.

Basically, get what you need to play/run what you like NOT to impress others but to generally make yourself happy and productive, where applicable. Smile

Haven't bought top-of-the-line hardware for years, I'm always in the mid-to-high range segment. i5 instead of i7, 1070 instead of 1080ti. As you said, plays all current games extremely well, even in ultrawide, but the money saved with these components allows to upgrade my hardware more often.

I went for mostly mid-level hardware the last years too. (i5, Core2Duo, AMD 7870, 560 Ti, 970).

But now i went for a more higher leveled setup too, as writtein in my other topic.

Could be because of my first job ( Embarassed ), which gives me regular income now.
Or the hope that the PC will last longer this way.

We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine
I say, we can go where we want to
A place where they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind
And we can dance

It seems that either no one got your point, or (more likely) no one agreed. I'll be the first to agree. If you don't care about ultra settings and 4k, there's no need to spend so much on hardware and it's still perfectly possible to have a lot of fun. Smile

Besides the people that go for a Quad-Sli Titan xD setup, i think most others are clever enough to get more fitting hardware for their usage.
